Just an empty box. stolen in transit?

A customer returned an item through the normal Amazon returns procedure.
But yesterday an empty box arrived. I knew the moment I picked it up it felt unusually light.

There is a large cut down one side of the mail bag taped up with brown tape.

The customer says they returned the item with clear tape around the parcel and for what its worth I believe the customer.

Amazon say I should claim with Hermes. Hermes says I must contact Amazon directly as the return was organized through them.

Has anyone else had a similar situation?

Only in that you cannot claim off anyone. Hermes won’t allow you to claim because the shipping was purchased through Amazon. Amazon won’t let you claim because they’ll tell you to go to Hermes. It sucks.

That’s exactly the situation I find myself in and I sell high value items. I never had an issue with Royal Mail returns. one day the service just switched to Hermes and I’ve had problems nearly every day. Can you opt out or move back to Royal Mail? I cant see any option to do this
