Shipping to Those In HM Prisons
Occasionally we receive orders where the recipricant is a guest at one of HM Prisons. Most of the sales are low value items but I have been using signed for post too be on the safe side. Is it really necessary to do this?

I have had a few, never used signed for, just standard postage, likely safer than to some business addresses that even if signed for never arrive with the buyer

Whether to a prison or not, using signed for on low value items seems OTT.

At least you know that they will be in to receive their delivery!

The inmate wont be signing for the parcel. Delivery confirmation will be available anyway - why would you need to do this?

Probably only as necessary as it is on any other item going to a large institution or business address. When your parcel is delivered it will be examined, inspected by sniffer dogs and x-rayed so there’ll be a lengthy delay in the recipient actually taking ownership of it anyway. As mentioned, the resident won’t be signing for it, the signature won’t match the name of the addressee so you may not even have the afforded protection should it go A-Z.

We have several orders each year for delivery to HMP.
In general they appear to be to prison officers and we never have any problems.
We do not use special delivery or signed for as in general most orders are £20 or less.
Their postal system inside the prison is far more secure than anywhere else.

Prisoners are allowed to use the internet and do online shopping?

It could be a prison officer / warden using his “work” address

I’ve cancelled a sale to a prison on my ebay account, I don’t want someone behind bars getting anything they don’t need let alone deserve.
