Wrong items sent to wrong customers - Royal Mail options?
Hi folks - bit of a schoolboy error here; we sent Item A to Customer B and Item B to Customer A.
Obviously the solution is for them to pop the items back into the post directly to each other, and we’ll be issuing refunds.
What’s the best way of doing this by Royal Mail - if they write ‘redirect’ or ‘not known here’ on the envelope along with a forwarding address will that do the trick?
A stupid mistake. Much appreciated!

I did exactly the same once.
I asked them both to return to me, and I then sent on to the correct recipient - obviously at my expense.
I didn’t want to risk either of them not forwarding to the other person.

Royal Mail Tracked Returns if you use click and drop. Create one and email them the label for them to drop off at the Post Office.

You cannot share customer A details with customer B and visa versa without express permission from either. (GDPR)
Best pay for return to yourself then resend.

Envelope - were they very cheap items? I would consider taking it on the chin and just resend the correct items to the correct person and not bother the customer with having to return or re-label them.

Just inform both customers that there has been an error in the dispatch process and ask for the items to be sent back in which you the seller will pay for…
In the meantime process a replacement order for the correct goods and send them to the customers. This may result in a loss but will decrease the chance of negative feedback and further complaints from the customer.
These things happen by accident and we ourselves have done this in the past on other selling platforms. I’ve not really had a problem with this resolution.

Ask customers to refuse the item, they come back FOC then send out to correct buyers, done it myself before

I have taken this risk a number of times but touch wood its never come back to bite me.
Most customers are honest.
That being said there is still a risk.
