We have been selling here on Amazon nearly 10 years and never seen things this bad over the past year or so. Its getting worse everyday and we feel like it seems its not worth selling here anymore.
Anyone else feeling the same ? or is it just an economic issue and people do not have money to spend on non essential goods?
I completely understand where you’re coming from; it’s incredibly frustrating when you’ve dedicated years to something and the results seem to be in decline. I took a look at your listings and saw they focus on karate and martial arts—if this is also a personal passion of yours, I can imagine it’s even harder to see demand go down.
To provide a bit of context, I’m attaching a screenshot showing Google Trends data for karate. Search interest is currently only around 40% of what it was back in 2004, so it’s like fishing in a lake with fewer fish—it naturally makes it harder to get the same results.
One option could be to explore adding products in related categories that might appeal to your current audience. But if you’d prefer to stay true to your brand and focus on your interests, I completely get that as well.
If expanding isn’t an option, there may still be some ways to optimize your current listings. For example, the description for your kids' karate gi (ASIN B00O2E61EO) could benefit from some formatting adjustments, like adding line breaks or bold text, and the description could be expanded for better readability and visibility.
That said, I do think the main challenge is likely the shrinking market. Hang in there, and hopefully, things will shift in a positive direction!
Best, Michael
Quick answer from me doing this for 10 years definitely no !!!
Its time to grow up and face it and move on. Sorry sad but true.
For me, as a BMVD seller, the most depressing aspect of Amazon is the terrible state of the catalogue.
Couple that with the almost useless search engine and the near-impossibility of getting errors and omission corrected, listing things here is an increasingly frustrating and soul destroying experience.
Here's an example annoyance...thousands of books have incorrect binding data, possibly uploaded by lazy/sloppy sellers who couldn't be bothered to check the details.
When you attempt to 'suggest' a change you are met with this 'computer says no' error message:
error 8541: The value Hardcover specified cannot be used as it conflicts with the value Paperback for ASIN 00000 in the Amazon catalogue. If this is ASIN 00000, update the value to match the ASIN data. If this is a different product, update identifying information (UPC/European Article Number (EAN)/Part Number/etc.)
To get past that involves interminable emails to SS to get an actual human to look at it. Chances are they will reject it at the outset. The amount of time it will take to get it corrected (if at all) is out of proportion to the potential reward when you have only one or two copies of the title in question.
So the errors continue to build up until the whole catalogue becomes a massive house of cards, ready to collapse at any moment.
Around 12 years for me,this year has been my best ever.
yes we feel the same & no it isn't worth the aggro
same with us.. its like its slowing down for the worst. we are looking at other avenues.. this is not good anymore. The amount of charges that just come out of our total balance. big chunks just deduct and we dont know why as there is no email notification of anything so what are we meant to do just trust amazon. its a joke. all this seems to be so much more worse recently.
You're not only dealing with a bad economic situation, but also dealing with all the nonsense from so called "customer services" who either ignore or respond with pathetic replies. Someone posted they were new to Amazon & looking forward to selling. He had about 12 replies mostly telling him not to bother.
Only one reply was positive yet a moderator commented "It looks like you have received good advice from the Community"
Point proven total disinterest!
I keep seeing posts from people saying, 'They’ve been selling on Amazon for 10 years, but their sales have been going down'' over the last 5.' It makes me wonder if the 'lifetime' of a seller on Amazon is around 10 years. Are older sellers slowly getting pushed out to make room for new ones? Or is it just that sellers having issues come to this forum, while the ones who are doing well don’t need to be here?
Jeff Bezos even said big companies have a lifespan of about 30 years, so maybe sellers get around 10 years?
My main frustration isn’t just the sales (though that is part of it—I’ve been selling for 10 years too and can’t see things improving anytime soon).... It’s the constant hassle with listing updates. I’m stuck doing the same thing over and over: just trying to update listings. Like 'number_6' said, I’m about ready to collapse! I was even thinking of moving to the EU, but with these endless listing update issues, I’m not sure it’s worth it. It feels like all I’ll be doing is updating listings!
I do wish Amazon to stop with these so-called 'improvements'—they just make things harder for sellers. I haven’t been happy with any of the updates, whether it’s this forum or the Amazon dashboard; everything seems designed to make things worse for sellers. Jeff Bezos said he doesn’t want Amazon to fail in his lifetime, but if things keep going like this, it just might.
Ten years on here too and agree its scarily bad what should be my busiest time of year and I'm sat here twiddling my fingers.Updating listings and keywords etc in case its "me" and I've got complacent! I do draw some comfort in seeing these types of posts so i know its not just me or my sector.
This question I would like to ask why hasnt AI sorted out the mess to resolve the common issues sellers face. One part says we are expected to follow Amazon process which is inconsistant and leaves the seller frustrated. Like we have been selling on here a long time and winding down.
