Return request for item not yet posted
I’ve been selling on Amazon for about 6 months.
However, despite having good sales on Amazon over the last 6 month I’ve never had a return request until today.
Somebody bought an item this afternoon, I’ve printed the postage label (Royal Mail Signed For) which was purchased through Amazon, I haven’t yet posted the item (my local post office closes early on Saturdays so the package wouldn’t be dropped off until Monday morning).
Shortly after I printed the label, packaged the item etc. The buyer requested a return with the reason “No longer needed.”
Less than an hour after the buyer requested a return authorisation the buyer has purchased a second item the exact same as what they originally bought.
When I go to authorise request I have the following options:
Return Merchandise Authorisation number
I want Amazon to generate a Return Merchandise Authorisation number
I want to provide a Return Merchandise Authorisation number
and
Your return postage label
I will provide a pre-paid postage label for this request.
I would like Amazon to provide an un-paid mailing label.
Do not show a postage label for this request.
How do I go about authorising the return and a refund if the item has still to be posted?
How would you deal with this situation if it was one of your customers?

If you haven’t posted the item yet, it’s basically just a change of mind return.
Better to do it before you post, than after.
Accept the return, don’t provide a label and refund the customer if you still have the goods.
They just choose the wrong option as it’s no longer available to cancel. What they should actually do is to send you a message asking if it’s possible to cancel.
