Amazon account name doesn't match Tax Name

Hi all,

I’ve sold on Amazon for 15 years with no issues but just had a verification process request as my Amazon name (Old_Skool_Games) doesn’t match my UTR Name (Personal Name). I am registered as “Self Employed”.

I’ve always just thought the Amazon name was a seller name rather than a “legal Name”.

Does anyone know what my options are? I’ve opened a case with seller support, but expecting a generic unhelpful response.

Thanks

as a sole trader, your amazon account should be in your name and then ‘old skool games’ would just be your storename

are you saying that ‘old skool games’ is the legal seller name under identity information ?

Still stuck in a constant loop of rejected verification and Amazon not allowing me to speak to anyone.

Just to close the loop on this and ensure that others needing the same help can be informed. The verification team were exceptionally helpful once I got a case raised with them.:

The outcome is:

We verify sellers when they first apply to sell on Amazon. Further to this, our system also does periodic random audits to ensure that the details in seller central are all up to date. Also, any changes to the account details will also trigger a re-verification of those details.

The issue is not with the name - as a sole trader you can use either your name or your business name. The issue is that the "Copy Only" tax return cannot be used for the purposes of the verification.

We can accept any of the following documents issued by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC):

- Class 2 National Insurance Contributions (NICs) Bill

- Self-Assessment notice to complete a tax return (not the one with “copy” on it)

- Letter confirming your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number

- Short Tax Return.

If you don’t have one of these documents on file, you can request a “Confirmation of Unique Taxpayer Reference letter” by calling HMRC directly. Some sellers use this option as most documents are done online :

- Call HMRC on 0300 200 3310

- Ask for the ‘Self-Assessment Department’

- Request a Confirmation of Unique Taxpayer Reference

This letter should take between 3 and 10 days to arrive.

Great to hear and thank you for sharing the information above.

Are you now completely re-verified and good to go on Amazon?
