Getting VAT numbers from business buyers
Hello,
We have been getting some orders from Business Customers lately.
We have not activated the VAT calculation program, seen as we have some technical issues with this (they will not accept our Austrian VAT number,. so its either cut off exports or not use VAT cal. program).
Our head of finance says we need the VAT numbers of the Business customers for tax reasons (as we are situated outside of the UK).
How do I get ahold of these VAT numbers? The Business sellers are not answering through messages (maybe they opted out).
Does anyone know how to see all business order ID’s in an easy way?
Any help appreciated, seen as SS are not answering either…

Where are your goods located? Are you shipping from Austria or from FBA in UK?

I’m not sure your head of finance is correct.
When exporting (in your case from Australia to other countries) you do not charge VAT, you just need proof that the order was exported. This is done by a tracking receipt from a courier or a certificate of postage for orders sent by post.
VAT numbers are useful to have on the package so that it reduces delays at customs and means that if the carrier collects any VAT it is properly recorded against the buyer’s VAT account.
If you are shipping items from the UK then you are required to have a UK VAT number and charge UK VAT on all orders sent to UK addresses. When shipping to EU destinations from the UK you will need the buyer’s VAT number if you intend to invoice them without VAT.
