How to get amazon to pay back?
Hi All,
We are registered business and Amazon was charging us VAT, and I want to claim those back because according to Amazon Services Europe Business Solutions Agreement, S-8. Tax Matters: section B they shouldn’t have charged us VAT if you are business. We are registered company from day one which means a business
a. I contacted seller support to claim refunds on those fees but my email is totally ignored.
b. Contacted managing director again email totally ignored!
Any advice in how to get some kind of response from Amazon? Or the small claim court is the only option available? Anyone been successful claiming back recently?
Thanks

Are you registered with HMRC for VAT?

It took me well over a year before Amazon eventually paid my VAT back. I wrote two emails to the MD and one to Jeff Bezos, didn’t seem to make a blind bit of difference. All I will say is just keep on at them and don’t give up. I got several thousand pounds back, so it was well woth it in the end.
Sadly I’m having the same issue now in the US. So far it’s been over six months and currectly they are just ignoring me. The thing that really annoys me is that they owe me a considerable amount more than they should do, simply because they dragged their feet in identifiying that I didn’t need to pay VAT in the first place.
I also don’t see how they think it’s acceptable to mess you around for months on end, while at the same time they are dipping their hands into your account and issuing instant refunds.

Well, it does appear to say what you say it does, however it is not in line with my understanding of how VAT is handled or Tax law.

Obviously not…
You can be a non-VAT registered company, in which case you can’t relaim input VAT and shouldn’t charge VAT to your customers. It’s only if you’re VAT registered that determines whether or not you can reclaim VAT, and whether or not you should charge it to your customers. A company or a sole trader (a person acting as a business) can be registered for VAT.

Are you VAT registered? If so you will be charged VAT and it is claimed back from HMRC in your VAT return, not from Amazon

Just contact the seller support and they will solve it. This also happened to me:slight_smile:

You are quite right. We have received a refund, took a long time but got what was owed in the end. A thread about it here
