If customer lies on new auto returns label

What is the situation if the customer lies on their return reason? A customer has opened a return, auto approved, stating the website description is inaccurate… no more details given. Attempted to message the customer and they’ve got messages turned off. Can I deduct the return postage off for this if I believe the customer is lying to get a free return and where does the customer then stand if they wish to challenge it.

Hard to dispute this one really I think you will have to pay the return postage. At the end of the day I am not sure how you prove the customer is lying. It is very hard when they don’t give any further information as you have no idea what the problem is, also if there is an issue how are you supposed to fix it?

Its not fair and I have had a couple of these and I have just had to put up with them.

Sometimes in these cases there are issues with the listing that you can’t even put right because Amazon won’t take your changes. It is such an uphill battle sometimes.

i have found 99% of these there is nothing wrong with them at all. They are purley using this description in order to gain free returns - Its common knowledge.

i think most buyers if there was actually something wrong would either message or at least put a note in the return request

I suppose it would be helpful to know what info the buyer is provided with, ie when they click to open a return, are they shown a message stating they are liable for returns postage if they click a certain option

The only thing I can think to do (and no idea how Amazon will respond) is to make a deduction from the item cost on the refund page where you are basically saying that the item wasn’t returned in the same condition as sent. Then within the photographic evidence section upload a picture of the returned item and the main picture on the listing and state that as they are the same the return reason given is incorrect and buyer should therefore be responsible for the return postage.

Ofc it is equally possible that Amazon will just say that the pics just prove that the same item was returned in the same condition.

Had one where they stated the item wasn’t delivered in time. The deliver by date was days away. They returned the item to me before its expected delivery date (maybe they had a time machine). Still had to refund the postage.
People change their mind then just choose whatever reason they know will get them a free return & refund. And Amazon are not helping by the way they present the options when doing a return.

Always check the order is being returned in accordance with the returns policy. You can make partial refunds where the received order has diminished in value. Prepaid labels can be deducted from the refund subject to the reason the order is being returned.

sorry to burst your bubble but on this platform when a dispute arises you are lying and the buyer is an angel…

i had an order where the customer obviously made an error and bought used instead of new

they then claimed the product was not as described on the website which was nonsense

i have no options for deducting anything from the refund on the screen so i have not issued a refund at all.

the return came back 3 weeks ago and so far no customer enquiry as to where the refund is

i will of course refund in full when they ask.

i also had a return request where amazon issued the label but the po sent me a card to say insufficient postage paid for the return

i ignored it so probably it will get sent back to the customer/

starting to play hardball with these stupid rules

I have had probably about 20 return requests in the last two months all not as described ( complete lie) or defective etc. Comments on a few that bother are often no longer need etc! So not as per the option selected by them of not as described or defective, clearly selecting for free postage.

Although out of all them only actually received two back. I am sure a lot hope for a refund without return to get the item for free and don’t want to return.

I have also had people message me saying amazon says this is ‘still on the way’ and refund then as too late now. It’s the fact they say Ama on says … shame the tracking shows delivered including a picture of them holding the package which is pointed out to them. Started added a line in messages that we will log with carrier and action fraud for the fact someone is pretending to live at their house and stealing their parcels.

It’s amazing how quickly they reply to say they mixed up the orders.
