The horrors of KYC verification
Hi everyone,
I hope you're all doing well. I'm reaching out to seek advice and insights regarding an ongoing verification issue I'm experiencing with Amazon Seller Support.
Background:
I recently encountered an issue with my Amazon seller account verification process. I provided all the required documentation, including a Certificate of Self-Employment, which is a legal document issued by the government of my country. The certificate clearly shows my business name, address, and relevant details, and it is dated within the last 180 days.
The Problem:
Despite providing all the necessary documentation multiple times, I received repeated responses from Seller Support stating that my business document was not acceptable due to various reasons. After several rounds of communication, we finally reached a point where all the information on the document was deemed correct. However, according to Seller Support, the issue now lies with the document not being dated recently.
I have diligently corresponded with Seller Support through numerous emails, emphasizing the date clearly stated on the document. It was issued this year, specifically in March, as highlighted within the document itself. Despite my efforts to clarify this discrepancy, the response I received reiterated the requirement for a more recent document, despite the fact that the one provided falls within the required timeframe.
This situation has left me perplexed and frustrated, as it seems that despite my best efforts to address the issue and provide the necessary evidence, there is still a misunderstanding regarding the validity of the document's date.
I'm unsure of how to proceed in this situation. I've already communicated with Seller Support and clarified the issue, but I received a response indicating that they believe it's the same request that was previously resolved, which is not the case.
Has anyone else encountered a similar issue with the verification process? If so, how did you resolve it? Are there any specific steps or strategies I should consider to escalate this issue and ensure a fair evaluation of my documentation?
Any advice, insights, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!

Ultimately you will have to get the document reissued. Amazon are following protocol to the letter and seldom make exceptions.

Give HMRC a call and ask them for a document to confirm you are registered as a sole trader confirming your UTR number. They are pretty quick and will have it within a few days.

When I was verified I sent them a scan of my UTR letter which was on the list of accepted documents - they did not accept the document but did not tell me why, they kept sending me the same list of acceptable documents. I had asked several times what was wrong with the document and they never told me, until one morning I got a phone call from Amazon KYC team and they asked me to open the Seller Central and go to the page with account verification and, there it was: the reason - 'document was altered'.
It turned out that on the scan there was a thin black line where the document was folded - so I made a photo of the document and sent it to them and, they accepted!
Hope this might help you with dealing with the Amazon KYC Police.

I am going through this at the moment too, so far been ongoing wince 15th FEB with all payments suspended since then too. They have thousands of pounds and every document gets refused. Have just ordered a letter of confirmation from HMRC over the phone and hoping that might be my ticket out of all this!

Can I ask what is the date format on the document you have supplied?
Is it is totally numeric as in 99/99/9999?
In which case it may simply be because in the UK we express this as day/month/year but in many other countries they use month/day/year.
So if your document was issued on 1st March it may be written as 01/03/2024 on the document you have supplied, but in the US that would mean 3rd January and so possibly out of scope of the timeframe.
Im not sure if this is your issue but worth checking.

I have the same situation. After I provided HMRC proof of UTR, they,,realized,, that I ticked incorrect citizenship regarding my passport. I corrected it immediately (my mistake) and I'm waiting another 3 weeks, with no response!!! They extended the promised verification time (24h up to 10 days!!!) several times - AND NO REAL HUMAN BEING to talk to properly. And Obviously, they keep thousands of MY pounds on hold, because my account hasn't been verified yet!!! I am furious!!! HORRIBLE SERVICE AND GETTING WORSE!!! It is not a standard they promised!!! VERY DISAPPOINTED AMAZON!!!
