Can I drop off my product directly at Amazon's warehouse?

If I request Amazon to ship me “unfulfillable inventory” to check or repair the product if necessary and then I want to send this product back to the same Amazon warehouse, can I physically go to the warehouse myself to drop off the product instead of paying for shipping? Is there any charge for this?

In a word, no.
You need to book in and follow all of their various procedures in order to be able to deliver to a fulfilment centre.
And not least, the centre that they want you to send to, could easily be at the other end of the country.
Even if there is one down the road from you, there isn’t much chance of getting that one to send your stock to.

I generally find unfulfillable inventory is that for a reason though, you could potentially sell it in a used condition but if it was fit to send back it wouldn’t be unfulfillable. I sell a lot of mine in a community/charity shop I also run because often its things like damaged plastic outer wrapping

When I first started with FBA (many years ago) I used to take stock to the FC in MK in my car!..they then baulked & said it had to be via a van. So I would hire a van from the closest B&Q for an hour…move my boxes from my car to the van…then rock up & the FC gates with a van bedecked with B&Q/Hertz on it! They were never happy about that!

You may wish to check the latest status.

That said, even if they do still allow you to deliver by van…you’d have to pay a whopping amount extra for you to be able to nominate your local FC as the FC you wish to deliver to (this used to be the case at least)… the associated surcharge would make it completely uneconomical/unviable to even consider doing it

I have spoken to a couple of people who drop off but that’s bulk items. One was in lighting, can’t recall the other one. If it’s palletised/itemised then I can’t see any difference to using a non standard courier.
All that said it seems like a lot of work when the UPS rates are so low.
If you ever check your tracking some of the couriers are asked to call back and often drop off in the middle of the night. So even if they accept a delivery you might not get it in in the first try. Another reason for using a courier.

You can but the process is so difficult that it’s not worth the hassle. Just use the standard UPS method if it’s suitable for the amount you’re shipping.

To deliver yourself you’d need to:

  1. Create the shipment through seller central until you get allocated to an FC you can deliver to (which is likely to take multiple attempts).
  2. Book the delivery slot through carrier central (likely to be Sunday at 4am or other daft time)
  3. Deliver to the nominated FC at the designated time in a vehicle that is a transit or sprinter van or larger, and comply with the PPE requirements (i.e. hiviz and protective footwear like steel toe cap boots)
