Tax and duties exporting to Europe issue

Hi. We are UK based. Ship to Europe. We are setup with IOSS. It works ok but recently we have customers in Europe saying their customs wants more money to process. But i thought with the IOSS system in place, Amazon pay the taxes etc.

Why would this be ? Does anyone know please ?

Also, i have been told if we send to businesses abroad - a DDP needs to be done ? What is this, and the difference to the above situation when selling to a non business. Can these duties be claimed back ?

thanks

S

IOSS is for the VAT normally but Duties are not covered. Duty on items originating/manufactured outside of the UK may still be incurred.

I’ve bought from businesses in Europe and they don’t send DPP. I still have to pay VAT & Duty when they arrived.

1 of 3 things could be happening here:

  1. The iOSS information is not being transferred properly (you, Royal Mail or receiving country could be at fault)

  2. The order is over 150EUR so ioss doesn’t apply

  3. IOSS is not applicable to the order because it’s from a business customer
