How can I estimate first FBA sales? And amount of inventory to ship at first?

Hi everyone,

I am a new ‘‘private label’’ seller on Amazon. And being honest, I am racking my head on how many items should I send to FBA at first!

I mean that I am afraid to send too much and it will not sell at all, products might be at the last pages and CPC might not convert so much. So storage fees will eat my profit.

But at the same time, if I send too less I am afraid that I will run out of inventory soon, and won’t be able to send a new shipment on time. (since it takes time for me to make a shipping plan).

I know that there isn’t a specific answer. But I would appreciate any kind of advice on how should I estimate my first sales.

P.s. I don’t have much experience with CPC campaigns. Did you ever face a problem that CPC campaigns are almost generating no sales?

Thank you.

There is no easy way to estimate FBA Sales there are too many variables at play , without having any pre existing FBM sales you have no way to determine the product sales volume.

The only way possible way is to monitor a competiting FBA Sellers stock levels consistently over a period, if they are selling the same item, you can add the item to your basket change quantity to 555 or 999 for example note the stock level and repeat each day for a period, it then gives a sales pattern but it’s still very rough you can not determine returns or inbound deliveries, but typically if an FBA Seller has a large quantity it would normally denote a high sales level, if you see movement on that level, although some Sellers have quantity just sat at FBA awaiting a long term storage fee

Your main objective should be to reduce risk of loss as far as you can . It might be best to send in only a small quantity for your first shipment . See how it sells . Than from there look to scale up or decide whether it is the right product .

Remember when you compare with other sellers , they may have a whole lot of other things going in the background . By that I mean you will not be aware of the level of marketing they are doing , so do not simply assume that because they are selling a lot you will automatically be able to do the same . They may be putting a lot of effort in driving those sales .

The potential loss of having stock that does not move is a much greater risk than a situation of running out of stock . Be patient , test your market first before jumping in with large order quantities

JungleScout have a free amazon sales estimator. You put in the marketplace (e.g. UK), category (e.g. Beauty) and its sales rank in that category (e.g. 7,274) which gives an estimates sales per month of 77. Do this with your competitors products to get an estimate
