Buyer returned fake products
Hi all,
Quite new to Amazon selling (2 months). Not too sure what to do with my buyer. Buyer asked to cancel order 12 hours after ordering by that time I have shipped out.
Asked to return the package unopened for refund, buyer returns it after 2 weeks and returned fake goods instead but did not send it tracked so he does not know I have received already.
Is it worth the hassle to fight it or let it go and turn a blind eye just to protect my measly 2 reviews I have gained so far?.
Best Regards

Hi if its under 20 quid personally I would just process the return I had a empty box returned the other day, its not worth the hassle or potential negative reviews from the buyer.

Much as I agree totally with what Peter T has said, it does seem that Amazon is becoming a place of thieves and scam artists and I think there needs to be changes to stop this sort of behavior. We have a added cost within our products which covers us for losses, meaning every person suffers higher prices to pay for thieves.

Personally I would call it out to the buyer to let them know the products returned did not match the ones I sent out. I would hold my ground for as long as I could even if the item was relatively low value.
There are a lot of scammers and the more we give in the more they will persist.
However I can see why you may want to protect your account. Decisions like this need to be made as to whether your metrics, product reviews can take the hit.

It’s getting to the point, and I know some already do this, that you need a video camera above your packing table/place so you can record what you’re putting in the packages. Then use that as proof you sent the right item.
Then of course, Amazon would probably still reject any A-Z because you don’t have proof it wasn’t swapped by some courier.
Luckily - maybe because I’m in Handmade - I haven’t had to deal with anything like this (yet).
And I agree - remain professional and let them know you’re going to pass the details to the delivery company and possibly the police to investigate a possible theft. At the very least, it’ll give them something to think about, whether you do actually do it or not.

Do not refund. Do not acknowledge receipt.
If the buyer cant prove you received their return then do nothing.

Thank you for the replies everyone. I have stopped contact with the buyer. Originally there was contact as we were going through return and refund process.
He messaged asking when the refund will happen today and I have marked it as not requiring a response.
Always have on back of my mind buyer would keep buying and messing around etc.
Fingers crossed.

The only problem is there’s a good chance that the buyer will open an a to z and you’ll probably lose (because of the system not because of you).
