Buyer returned used (not mine) item
Hi all,
I have authorised a return and buyer returned used item instead of a new one he purchased from me. It was not my item used and then returned but the same item from somewhere else…I know that because I have a tiny spot on every my item.
I know I should say sorry and refund … But is there any other way to deal with this case?

I would tell him that you have received the return and that the product is not the one supplied as all of your products are security marked before dispatch.
Ask him if he could have got the return he sent you mixed up with another from a different supplier.
I would also let amazon know that you are not the supplier of the returned product.

“I know I should say sorry and refund”
Why on earth do you think that?!
Of course you shouldn’t apologise. Tell the buyer you authorised a return of the item you sold, but as a used, different item has been sent you will not be refunding.

If the buyer is not happy with the outcome, they can open an a-z claim.

Tell them they have mistakenly sent you a used item that does not match the item you sold to them. At this stage you cannot refund them,… then ask them if they would like the item returned they will need to send you a returns label or arrange a courier to collect ;).

More than once our returned FBA items (not suitable/not as expected/incompatible) arrive back to us with the contents decanted out and replaced with cheap supermarket tat!
If we didn’t recall returns we wouldn’t know but Amazon weren’t at all interested the first time we informed them what the customer had done

Could you update us of the outcome please, thank you.

I get that. Taking a hit on your metrics can be hard to reverse.
But. If you allow it theres nothing stopping the buyer from trying again. Even to the same seller!

Wait for the scammer to even start an A-Z claim and leave negative feedback " Which Amazon still allows "
Same happened with me, new item exchanged with another in dreadful horrible condition " must be like a year old at least ", returned to me after 1 week under the excuse " Defective "
The buyer has even removed the serial number from the item so I can’t match it with the one I’ve on record. A clear scam.
Such thieves thrive on Amazon because they are allowed to do their dirty tricks once and once again. No protection for sellers whatsoever …

Yes you have made your decision I respect your resolve as you have a right, after all it is your business.
But be warned expect more of these in the future.
Your company name will now be discussed in other groups were they share info on companies that are open to fraud.
By allowing this you have opened the gates.
