Receiving e-mails from sellers with the incorrect e-mail address
Over the last few months we’ve started seeing a discrepancy between the e-mail address amazon gives us when a buyer asks us a question and the e-mail address amazon gives us when they order.
We have a system that automatically matched e-mail enquiries to their order based on the e-mail address but htis no longer works as amazon are not affixing a random string to the e-mail address of enquries.
e.g.
john smith places an order. Amazon states his e-mail is abcdefghij123123@marketplace.amazon.com
John smith then e-mails asking a question about his order. This e-mail comes from abcdefghij123123+sa2jdhf3skdlf4jhas5dfhdsaf@marketplace.amazon.com
Can anyone advise why this happens and how we can disable this feature?
Best regards

Well, I highly doubt Amazon are gong to allow this to be user controllable. The best you could do is to try and determine what the additional string is, is it consistent (I imagine it is a hash of the order id) and get your system to ignore it.

This is a very interesting and important point, which I also noticed.
I am not using any e-mail software but there is a different aspect, where the difference in e-mail address is causing problems.
In case of an “Items Not As Described” A-Z guarantee claim, Amazon will ask the seller to e-mail the return instructions to the buyer with a CC to A-Z guarentee in order to have it denied.
However, Amazon will not recognise the usual buyer e-mail format (for example abcdefghij123123@marketplace.amazon.com), but will require the seller to e-mail using the second format, which includes the “+” symbol, therefore abcdefghij123123+sa2jdhf3skdlf4jhas5dfhdsaf@marketplace.amazon.com.
The second format can be only found if the buyer ever messaged the seller.
