Used book listing issue

Hi,

Just wondered if someone could offer some advice/thoughts please.

So I only sell used books on Amazon and last week I’ve listed some books for the first time in a few months. I know recently there has been a lot of changes with the adding products page and things constantly changing.

I got an email last night to say that one of my listings had been suppressed due to being a potential duplicate. First time I’ve ever had this and I’ve sold over 250 books in the past 12 months. Can’t understand at all what’s caused this issue.

I list my books by going to Catologue, Add products, product IDs I type in the ISBN and then it brings up a match for me to then start filling out SKU, Price, Offering condition etc.

Just wanting to know is this still the correct way to list used books? I’m concerned there might have been a change that I’m unaware of and want to make sure before sending any more inventory in.

If someone could point me in the right direction would be massively appreciated

Cheers

Liam

That is the correct way to 'manually list books. The problem is that the catalogue is stuffed full of redundant duplicate clones created by unscrupulous sellers attempting to confuse buyers.

The search engine employed by Amazon's 'add a product' page is surprisingly erratic. It works more like the search engine on the buyer's side of the site and frequently shows 'matches' that have nothing to do with your search terms.

This is especially true if you search by title rather than by ISBN but either way can give you duplicates in search results.

Amazon's bots occasionally flag up these duplicates though they often get it wrong.

I've never understood why the system allows books with ISBNs to be duplicated into ASINs that have no ISBNs (just those B00... ASINs) but it does. A fairly small band of dropshippers have exploited this weakness to the point where the catalogue probably has more redundant/bogus duplicates than legit ISBNs. :(
