VAT critical issue
Hi everyone, looking for any advice you can give us. We decided to start selling products on Amazon UK. We tried to create FBA order to ship our product from china to UK and we realized we need to have a UK VAT number and EORI to import our product to UK amazon warehouses. The problem is that if you want to get UK VAT number you need to have registered company somewhere, in our case we live in Ireland , so we need to register company in Ireland, I suppose? We are just starting, we don't have any turnover or anything. Is the only way in this situation is to register a company? What type of company if it is just myself and my friend? What steps we need to take? Please any advice is welcome.

You don't have to have a ltd company - you could have a partnership, but you'd need to do a bit of research about the responsibilities and requirements etc.. Yes, as you are in Ireland and wanting to store your goods in UK for FBA then you do need to be VAT registered.
Whatever you do, do not buy, or ship your products to UK until your account is FULLY verified, you will just end up with mounting storage fees. Before you go any further you need to do your research, and I suggest reading Amazon Seller University - everything you need to know will be there. I wish when people sign up they would direct new sellers there - it would save a lot of confusion and stress for new sellers.

You dont need to have a base inthe UK, you can register for VAT under the NETP basis. Do a search on the HMRC website for: "VATREG37150 - Non-established taxable persons (NETPs): what is an NETP?"
