Listing quantity changed now I'm been charged for refunds

I’ve been having some decent sales from some wholesale products I bought, I thought I’d cracked it. Then all of a sudden I’ve been paying out a load of refunds, because the brand owner decided to change the quantity from a single unit to a bundle of 4. I’ve raised a case but Amazon basically said the brand owner can do what they want with the listing. Is there anything else I can do, or how do I stop this from happening again? Is this allowable in Amazon’s TOS.

Welcome to the wacky world of Amazon, the listing quantities, images, description and even the product can change at any time.

It is against Amazon policy to update a product title so it is a different product.

For example you are selling a blue widget and they then become yellow widget. You can’t update your product title to change blue to yellow as this is a different product.

In your example I would say it is a different product as it now a pack of 4 rather than a single pack. If should really have been listed as a different product. If it is no feasible for someone to sell as singles then they can set a minimum order quantity against the ASIN.

It is probably against Amazon rules but getting anyone to take any action will be near impossible.

Also be absolutely sure the update has been done by the brand owner. Amazon often say this but in reality it is just another seller who stocks that brand.

In answer to your question, no listings can not be changed to a different quantity or product, seller support should not have told you this, but not really a shock that they have. It is against Amazon policy, but getting anything done about it is almost impossible.

We have seen a fair few products we list on change to totally different products, not much you can do other than cease to sell the product, otherwise you will continue to make a loss on anything you sell.

Are the items you bought wholesale, multi packs or gift packs that you split down to sell individually ?

Usually even the brand owner would have to prove the EAN applies to a pack of 4 to get it changed

Your products on your storefront are major brand names too
