Legal name in the US
Say my company name in the UK is GreatDeals Ltd, would I use that in the US registration process ? or must I create a US company and use that for the legal name instead ?

When you say US registration process, is that for an Amazon seller account?
We were able to sell into America via Amazon quite easily. Our name in America was the same as our name in the UK. We just created some global listings and sent stock, simple as that.
Now we are advancing our efforts in the USA by creating a legal entity which will be 100% owned by our UK company, but that is causing so many headaches in itself - sales tax is a right nightmare.
