Product designed for UK customers to take with them to the EU

I want to sell my EU power strips on Amazon UK for customers that travel overseas and want a good power strip to take with them.

I tried listing before but it was removed as a product violation as the product does not have a UK plug or a UK adaptor with it.

This product is not intended for use in the UK, and it cannot be used in the UK. I made this clear in the listing but it was still removed by your team.

Surely it must be possible to list products designed for traveler's to take to the EU with them?! Its obvious from the product photos that this is not for use in the UK as it has EU sockets and an EU plug on it.

I don't think you're legally allowed to sell that in the UK.

Edit - Assuming you're not supplying a UK adapter along with it.

I dont know why I cannot do the same?

There are always people who manage to get away with breaking the rules.

Afaik, this isn't an Amazon issue, your dispute is with UK law. Granted, I'm relying on Google's AI summary to back up my half memory, but it claims selling these violates The Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994.

You should read that legislation in full.

RS components, Farnell, CPC all supply them. There’s a difference between supplying a product destined for use in the UK but fitted with a non uk plug and an appliance or device not intended to be used in the UK but supplied within the UK.

There is no law that states European power strips intended for use in the EU cannot be sold in the UK.

That's not what I'm seeing. What I'm seeing is that Electrical Appliances sold in the UK are required by law to have a UK plug or a UK adapter.

And for reference - amazons page on the matter.

That being said - what you are selling is not an appliance - its an adapter.

But the issue is likely to be merely AI related. Amazons bots will see an EU plug reference in the data or the image but not be aware its not actually connected to an appliance.

We've struggled ourselves with a simple 3 pin to EU travel adapter. Unfortuantely, you are very unlikely to get anyone at seller support to understand the issue.

it’s a cable/adaptor not an appliance. Lots of electrical suppliers sell them in the UK. If it was just a USB charger I could understand.

It could well be, I don’t even need to sell them in the UK. What I do need is to use the FBA network to fulfil to the EU via the UK warehouse. I have Spanish VAT but clearing customs into Spain to an FBA centre is not possible because Amazon FBA centres won’t communicate with Spanish customs. Yay for Brexit….

It's not an adapter though, it's a gang socket. Both the plug and the sockets are for EU plugs.

I'm not claiming I know for sure how the regulations work, but from the search I did, it seemed that this type of multi-socket still comes under the legislation.

The exact wording is:

Regulation 3 – Scope

These Regulations apply to any plug, socket or adaptor which is intended for domestic use in the United Kingdom at a voltage not less than 200 volts.

The key words are “intended for domestic use in the United Kingdom”.

These products are not intended for domestic use within the United Kingdom. They are only sold within the United Kingdom for convenience of the consumer. This is why other companies like CPC, RS, Farnell are able to supply them within the UK.
