IOSS & EU VAT Numbers
Does anyone know if the IOSS negates the need to register for VAT in each EU country?
I lost my German account a while back due to a couple of items that were transferred there without me realising, which flagged up the requirement to register for VAT in Germany, as was the same for many people it seems.
I’ve held off applying for a German VAT number because of this new OSS, but not heard anyone discussing if it makes any difference to the VAT requirement on here?
I don’t want to register for EU VAT numbers if I can avoid it.

If you’re only selling through online marketplaces, you won’t need to be VAT registered in EU countries you’re shipping into, provided you’re not holding stock there and your orders are being shipped from business to customer.
If you are holding stock there, you’ll need to VAT register. You can register with the One Stop Shop in one EU country and have it apply for the whole of the EU, though.
If you are shipping from outside the EU into the EU, shipping from business to customer and the orders were not placed on an online marketplace site, you only need to VAT register in the EU if your annual sales into the EU (as a whole) will exceed 10,000 Euros.
Though I am 99% sure that information is right, I would recommend you using the Gov and Eu websites to verify everything I’ve said for yourself, to make sure I’m not misrepresenting anything.

No, OSS does not preclude the need to register in each country where stock is held. It is for companies shipping from outside the EU in, or for companies shipping goods from one EU country to other EU countries.
The rule around requiring to be VAT registered in each country where stock is held has not changed so if your account was flagged for non-compliance of VAT regs for that reason, IOSS will not remedy it.
