VAT numbers in Europe?
Hi all
I am new to selling in Europe. Currently i only sell in the UK.
Do you have to have separate VAT numbers for each country you list in? I have one for GB but do i have to buy separate ones for each country i list in?
Thanks
H

you must have separate VAT numbers for each country you Store goods in
speak with your accountant about your VAT requirements

You don’t buy them, you apply for them. And, as @The_Little_Shop says, you need a separate one for each country in which you store goods.
However, if you’re only sending goods from the UK to Europe, rather than storing them on the continent (=FBA), your UK VAT number will suffice. Either way, you’ll need a UK EORI number and an EU EORI number for customs.

Hi 4L_Protection_Ltd
IOSS number is provided by Amazon. Are you using FBA? Which country are you dispatching your orders from?

If you are using FBA and just sending goods to a UK warehouse and then Amazon export the items for you, then no you do not need any additional VAT numbers (but beware of pricing issues).
If you are sending goods to am Amazon EU warehouse, then you will only need to be VAT regsietered in that particular country in which the warehouse is located.

If you want to use PAN EU FBA you need to be VAT registered in ES, PL, CZ, IT, DE & FR. Getting all those VAT registrations takes a long time. Spain is especially tricky. You have to get a Spanish Tax ID and get an appointment at the Embassy. You’ll need a notary public too.
You could just register in one country, e.g. France and use EFN but it’s a lot more expensive for the fulfilment costs. Also, say an item was purchased by a German buyer was returned, it would be returned to a German FC. Suddenly you are storing stock in Germany and are liable to be VAT reg there. A lot of accounts got suspended over this issue.
We’ve been PAN EU for 5 years, which is the only reason I’m still doing it. If I was asked do do it again, post-Brexit I wouldn’t do it.
