Decreasing Sales

as you people can see from the title. Our sales are on the downward trend since the start of this year. It has not happened with us since 2 years. Even last year at this time our sale was almost 100% better than now. Does anyone else facing the same issues or is it just us. e-bay is doing above expectations. Our sales on e-bay has increased by 226% to last year. Don’t why Amazon is being so slow. Any help would be appreciated.

my Sales are up 100%*

*I only started selling Feb last year and have gradually added new items.

As you can see your question will not get you a proper answer as your circumstances may be completely different to everyone else.

You need to look at information like BSR for your best sellers and also compare to other marketplaces like Ebay/your own website.

don’t assume its brexit!

Can I ask how long you have been selling on Amazon?. I have been selling for 4 years and my sales have been on a downward trend for about 6 months. I sell across different categories and the majority of my items are unique and without competition so there is nothing specific to blame. I never thought I would see the day, but I am currently receiving more sales on eBay.

I am seller since 2012. I have around 7 sale channels and I have various products. On some products I do not feel slowdown like small gift products There is definitely global drop on sales on Amazon and Ebay. As we are on peak of economic cycle,it has effect on consumers spending less money. Brexit uncertainty was factor too until today. As they pushed it to October, it is okay for next couple of months again.
I had better sales on Ebay till 2017 and Amazon is making more since, much more. Ebay is flooded with cheap Chinese sellers across many categories so it is harder to sell there in my opinion
Just make sure you have various products and categories and you will get sales all year stable

Yeah massive drop in sales, I feel that it’s dropped more since Amazon took away our “Privilege” to offer express delivery.

I agree with the comment above. People are shopping directly with China via Wish.
Also more and more people are shopping through social media. January onwards people spend less. Social media target specific audiences and take their cash without them even realizing.
Maybe look at paid advertising?

I am also seeing a downward trend. I’m not one of the ‘im alright jack’ responders here, there’s a genuine downturn in sales.

I was doing around 20 - 30 tshirts a day, this has plummeted to 10 if not less. eBay is far better whereas it was AZ. And you can’t exactly say my sector is being affected by Wish or AliExpress.

It’s quite worrying but at the same time it’s giving me cause to venture elsewhere. I think far too many of us here rely on eBay and Amazon too much.

No sales for three days. Number of viewers in business report seriously fell as well… it seems people stop liking to buy here…

IMO the removal of basic expedited RM 1st Class Post option is not helping.

For example, if someone ordered from us today we would send out by first class post so they are likely to receive this tomorrow or Monday latest yet the estimated delivery date doesn’t even start until next Wednesday.

This is really not going to help and I definitely think that it only serves to confuse the customer more not less as Amazon were trying to convince us. Basically it will put them off any merchant using ordinary Royal Mail postage unless they don’t want their item for a week or so.

Amazon sales have been fairly constant for us, we have seen gradual growth of sales on ebay and a slight decline in sales on our website. There are many factors to take into account, some specific to Amazon while others more general.

Amazon has a big problem with drop shippers corrupting the catalogue. Legitimate listings are being drowned out by duplicates at higher prices. When Amazon buyers see an item that should cost £10 being offered for £20 they are just not buying. The drop shippers don’t care as long as occasionally someone buys from them they get money for nothing and in all likelihood they will claim no receipt and rip off the genuine seller for the full value of the product.

All marketplaces have a big problem with Chinese sellers having an unfair advantage and often misleading buyers. It costs less for a Chinese seller to post something from half-way across the world to a UK address than it does for us to post a letter to someone in the same town. They invariably do not pay any VAT or Tax even to their own government. Then they often claim to be a UK seller but ship from China or Hong Kong.

The trouble is buyers are getting fed up with these things and are losing trust in the marketplaces. Instead of going elsewhere people are invariably asking do I really need this thing? And the answer is often they would rather do without than risk being ripped off.

As already mentioned more and more people are trying to make money selling on marketplaces like Amazon. If you have something popular that makes money you can be sure that someone else will be selling the same or similar thing soon.

Retail is not a good place to be at the moment, while the media report the closing of places like Debenhams and point to competition from Amazon as being the reason, they a wrong. While on-line competition is part of the problem for traditional retailers, buying habits are changing. The consumer culture is changing, people are just not buying so much stuff any more.

The older generation that used to fuel the consumer economy have everything they want and more. Younger generations have little disposable income as most are spending most of their income on rent. What disposable income they do have is being spent on things like coffee and virtual products like music streaming services.

Brexit, whatever you think about it has an impact as well, because the government has simply failed to either complete or abandon Brexit the uncertainty surrounding it has people being cautious. Add this to the austerity measures that has seen wage growth, particularly in the public sector slow, people are naturally being cautious about spending.
