Want to change bank account, worried about middle name

Hello

I’m set up on Amazon UK as a sole trader which means my business name is my full legal name which includes my middle name (e.g. John Doe Smith).

My business bank account is also in my name but it does not include my middle name (e.g. John Smith)

Is this likely to cause problems if I attempt to update my bank account info on seller central? I’d be tempted to first ask my bank to update my account name if it will allow me to avoid verification hassles.

It should be okay . As we have differing documentation saying either

  • John D Smith

  • J.D.Smith

  • John Doe Smith

  • John Smith

Maybe run by seller support ahead of adjustment. Good Luck!

I don’t think it matters (my bank doesn’t have my middle name in) as long as what is in each field represents what’s on your proof if asked to provide it.

So enter your name on the bank account exactly how it is on your bank statment

Under business info just make sure it’s exactly how HMRC have it on documents.

Especially as you are a sole trader this will be fine as they accept it’s your name and not a specific business name you’ve registered.

Quick update for future readers

I was able to update my bank account details without triggering additional verification (will add a new reply if that changes)

  • I first contacted seller support asking them about changing my details, they advised that I should have support call me and do a phone verification prior to making any changes

  • Submitted a phone ticket and seller support called me, did some identity verification over the phone, and then reset my deposit method bank account details

  • I was then able to enter in a new account number / sort code (I currently only sell on Amazon UK), and this did not trigger seller verification

Note: The UI forces your bank account name to be the same as your seller account name which made my ‘middle name’ question a moot point. I don’t see my middle name being an issue on my bank’s side so problem is resolved in that respect.
