GTIN exemption question

Hi I have been looking into if i need a product ID code: I have made my questions BOLD

If the product does not have a GTIN

We understand that some products do not have a GTIN. If your product is already listed on Amazon, you can list your offer on the existing product detail page and do not need to provide a GTIN. If your product is not listed on Amazon, request a GTIN exemption.

WHAT IF THE PRODUCT IS LISTED BY SOMEONE ELSE BUT THEY HAVE THERE OWN BRAND, CAN YOU STILL USE IF YOU HAVE BRANDED DIRFFERENT BUT PRODUCT SIZE EXT IS THE SAME

Before you request a GTIN exemption

Please note that we have a list of brands that require a GTIN to list on Amazon. GTIN exemptions are not available for these brands since the brand already provides a GS1 approved barcode on their products. Any product that belongs to any of these brands and does not have a GTIN will be suppressed.

WHAT IF I HAVE RE BRANDED AS MY OWN

For a couple of barcodes, I get why it seems excessive but if you plan to add more products in the future, it would be advisable to go down the GS1 route. Another point is if a product is listed on Amazon with a GS1 barcode, it is more difficult for an unscrupulous seller to hijack the listing and make changes, as Amazon would require evidence of the product packaging with its barcode etc.

That being said, as you know you can always go down the GTIN exemption route which will save you a bit of money, but bear in mind if you list a product using GTIN exemption, you cannot then go back and add a GTIN/GS1 barcode to that listing later on.

If another seller has branded the item with their brand, regardless of whether you think the item is the same, if your item is branded differently, you CANNOT list on the other brand.

One reason being, the other brand could very well be brand registered and you could end up with a trademark infringement.

In our experience it literally took 30 minutes to apply for, and receive GTIN exemption.

Having said that, I wish I had gone down the route of registering with GS1UK from day one. Would have made things a whole lot easier when registering my products with Amazon transparency.

Hi, Our supplier is wholesale and does not sell smaller quantities.

I’m just confused with this learning curve, GS1 subscription really seems excessive over £100 for someone who only needs a couple of barcodes.

To be clear, we are purchasing our product per 5 litres and are selling much smaller 30ml quantities, we have labelled and rebranded. We have all the material safety data sheets from our supplier. Would you recommend we still go the GS1 route.
