Insurance for Multiple product types!
Hi everyone,
I’m having a REALLY hard time finding someone to offer me insurance at a decent price. Unfortunately, there are three things against us! Firstly, we don’t specialise in one specific product type. We sell almost everything, so long as it’s not too big, heavy or expensive. Most insurers I’ve come across want you to specialise in toys and games, or clothes, or something else, etc! The second thing against us is that we have sold some items in the USA. Apparently, even if you don’t sell in the future the insurance they give you has to cover you for past sales too. So if you have EVER sold to the USA you have to declare it. And then thirdly, I was director of a business that I retired from in 2013, but it was liquidated and dissolved in 2016.
These three things count against insurance, and the best premium I’ve been able to find is £2450 a year! Which really is complete madness as the sales to the USA were less than 1% of our turnover and we are happy to not sell in the USA if it’s such a big issue for insurers as it’s so miniscule compared to what we’re doing in the UK/EU!
So I guess I’m looking for advice from other sellers who sell a broad spectrum of products and who have exported to the USA. Anyone know where i should go for insurance?
Thanks,
Leanne

What kind of insurance are you actually looking for?
If just public liability, that sounds to be an extremely high figure.

Have you tried using a broker? My broker is extremely helpful in breaking down options, where the expense is and searching out insurers that cater to your business needs. Happy to refer if it helps.

I specialise but have found that Direct Line cover for sales to the US, up to a certain percentage, and Cascade, but the excess is higher for the US.

Just in case anyone else reading this post is also looking for specialised Amazon insurance, I wanted to share the details of the company I’m using. They specialise in Amazon insurance!
The lady I’ve been dealing with is Natalee Bennett at the below company. She has been excellent so far.

depends who you use, I was with swinton however they’ve merged with towergate and i would NOT recommend towergate, complete disaster, my business situation changed as i moved premises and towergate were unable to change my insurance mid-term without massively high price hike, so I’ve now ditched towergate after they failed to sort it out as I needed new insurance to kick in from the day I moved,
I was on and off the phone to them all day whilst moving,
public liability was the easy insurance to get however we don’t ship to the USA
