Manufacturer's Hide & Seek
I sold a steam mop of a famous brand couple of months ago. The buyer bought the item and then decided to return it. Then few days later opens the return, I accepted it but I was bit curious as the buyer could see the other seller selling it at half price and my price was not even in buybox (actually double to be precise).
I was still curious as I was trying to find out why he paid double price and when he enquired about refund and I asked about tracking…Bingo, its the manufacturer itself of that item and now also selling on the same listing.
My question is:
- They sold the item somewhere and was out of stock and when their stock came in they decided to return my expensive item.
- The return of an item may have negative impact on my account and they possibly make more sales?
- Is it classed as anti-competitive behaviour?
Your opinions are welcome as I have not refund them yet.

Does the product have a serial number, and were you wise enough to make a record of it before you despatched ?

From your post it sounds like they only placed a test buy to see, if you are selling authentic goods.
Unfortunately, Amazon allows buyers to return their orders for any reason within 30 days past delivery.
So, manufacturer or not, you need to accept it and refund on receipt.

I reckon its a test purchase to determine authenticity. Whilst it could be deemed unsavoury for them to then return it they are entitled to do so within 30 days of receipt.
Best just to accept the return, refund and move on.

In your enquiry you say the you sold a steam mop couple of months ago and the customer wants to return this.
Firstly you would not order an steam mop keep it for a few months wait for the price to drop to then decide to return it… Prices fluctuate daily on Amazon.

Not when a buyer changed his/her mind about the item
