Stealth charges
Well this is a strange one. I wonder if anyone has had an experience like this one?
1st Dec I sell an item worth £4.69, and pay £2.51 to send it.
the courier fails to deliver in time and the customer contacts me, I raise a claim with the courier. But rather than making the customer waiting for the outcome, I refund them. Losing £2.51 for the courier.
No point sweating that, win some lose some as we all do.
Today, the item actually arrives (timing is everything). So I check with the customer and it has.
But customer doesn’t like the item and raises a return request. Bearing in mind I had already refunded the customer yesterday. They are now returning an item that they haven’t actually paid for. But in the world of Amazon where customers are Kings and Queens, and we the paupers, Amazon charge me instantly for the return the customer has raised. So I lose another £4.69. Plus they provided a label automatically, so that’s another £3.30.
So I’ve now paid, 2 x £4.69, plus £2.51 courier, and now £3.30 for a Royal Mail label which wont be used. Way to go Amazon! That’s £15.19 for this shambles.
Other platforms don’t charge you for the label until the label is scanned, not here, they charge you and if that label is never used, they pocket the money you paid for it, its never returned to your account (from the answers seller support gave me), and we’ll never see it again.
How can such a loophole exist? I wasn’t even aware until just now. And seller support now want me to contact the customer and request they call Amazon so they can charge them for the extra money that Amazon took. Not a chance!!!
That’s another nail closer to burying this farcical market place. I’m just glad it was a low priced item, but watch out people!

Amazon don’t charge you for a return label until is scanned. They only ever charge the return postage if the item has been sent back to you.
I can’t comment on why Amazon have refunded the item again if you have already refunded it. Have you contacted SS to ask why that has happened?
This isn’t aimed at you but I think some sellers are refunding far too quickly at the moment. There are delays and with items with tracking you can point the customer in direction of the tracking. Yes you may get an A-Z but a lot of customers are reasonable and will wait.

Amazon don’t charge you until the label is scanned either. And once it is scanned, refund at first scan kicks in, and the customer would be refunded. Its possible a bug as its a new system where amazon can’t account for already refunded orders.
You need to try open a Safe T claim by the sounds of things.

Clearly there is some problem with Amazon Returns system which Amazon are aware of.
I currently have a customer who purchased 1 hat from me but has managed to open 3 returns for the same item and order number. I can get no sense out of Amazon support who agree there are multiple returns opened but will do nothing to assist. So the customer has been provided with 3 return labels which I presume I will be charged for and once the item is returned I may possibly be out of pocked again as the customer will be refunded 3 times for the 1 purchase.
The reason I mention this on your thread is that the returns system is open to abuse Amazon know it but do nothing to change it. The system should be able to identify that you have given a refund thus not allowing the buyer to open a return in the first place. In my case you would imagine that a buyer could only open 1 return for an item purchased but apparently not.

Amazon Return System is open to abuse and all those buyers who know how to play it are cashing in big time because the seller either do not have the knowledge of how to handle these claims/refunds or they are too scared to report it fearing of loosing their seller account privileges.

Im fed up with so called Amazon LEADER Support…Pants staff who have no clue…We are fed up with the Amazon returns with customer simply getting FULL refunds when i was told FULL refunds would be for Damaged, late or Wrongly supplied item then i take the hit…For general returns no needed or wanted Amazon would reund less £4 to cover the cost of returns,Daily i check refunds and every day see £70 + most days refunded to liars and cheats…Amazon Love it a £4.49 Liverpool Keying arrived back yesterday no paperwork from who??? Hermes at £2.75 for a Large Letter were i could message a RM label for £0.72p and refund only when it arrives back with paperwork. Its Amazon care for Customers only not sellers who pay for every sale
