New product listing- GTIN from GS1 not valid

Hi there

I am in the process of publishing my first product list and came across an issue with GTINs from GS1.

I have copied GTIN-13 number from mynumbers on GS1 and selected GTIN as an ID option on the product listing page but it says it’s not valid. I have looked at other options and it seems fine if I select EAN for the same number instead. Not sure if I can do that?

Likewise, I have also gone through check digit on GS1 and added the additional digit they populated for my GTIN number which now allows me to proceed to publish the product list?!

I am bit confused here and not sure what to select and how to go from here so that it doesn’t become an issue down the line. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance!
Tom

I spoke directly to GS1 about this the other day. Amazon use the EAN label for the GTIN, and don’t tell you. Just to confuse matters

Use EAN at all times!
