Postage Settings
I am having trouble setting postage charges for my products. I am setting up my inventory, but appear to have no control over the postage costs. (Individual Seller).
I would like to go FBA, but am trying to work out the rates & fees for either FBA or FBM. I have listed an item as FBM but it has added a really high price for postage, which makes it bottom of the list likely to sell. (I presume this is from a shipping template that Amazon has created)
If I reduce the sale price so the customer pays a reasonable total, am I right in thinking that the ‘credit’ from Amazon will be the default postage they have set?
Please help, I really want to get going, and after a prolonged verification, this is another stumbling block I am struggling with. Thanks.

On the individual selling plan you can’t change postage costs. They are set by Amazon and differ depending on which category your item is listed in. See link below for rates:

If you wish to set your own postage rates then you’ll have to upgrade to the professional selling plan which costs £25 + VAT per month.

Also, be sure you take into account ALL the fees incurred with FBA - sending your stock to Amazon, the storage costs (depend on size), and others which I confess I know nothing about as don’t use FBA !

Thank you both. That does help. I can see why Amazon set templates. Is that where the postage ‘credit’ comes in? So if you post for less, you win, but if you post for more you take the hit?
I realise FBA has it’s own set of fees. I was comparing two products and trying to work out the best route, but the postage thing has flummoxed me.

So for the FBA option I would not need to worry about stating postage because they charge fulfilment fees etc, and it would also be a Prime listing?

My advice is, sell on eBay. You can set your own postage, based on size and weight.
As to FBA, I would read posts on the forum and consider the pitfalls, before committing yourself to potential cost and stress.
