VAT Reciepts from non UK Sellers

I recently made a purchase on Amazon for an item sold by a non UK seller. As many know non UK sellers must be VAT registered in order to sell items i.e. items stored within the UK before being sold such as FBA. Checking the sellers details I do see a UK registered address and VAT number.
However when I download the invoice from Amazon it shows zero VAT. I’ve messaged the seller and get the impression they don’t know what a VAT reciept is or how to provide one with avoiding to answer the question.
So my question is whether the item in question is eligible for claiming VAT back in this scenario and whether Amazon should or can provide this or the seller? I suspect something odd is going on here with some loop hole with them avoiding collection and payment of VAT…

You won’t be able to claim the vat back without a proper vat invoice showing the vat you paid

You need to get a correct invoice with the correct vat amount on it.

I would guess the onus would fall on the seller, Amazon is only generating invoices based on the information provided by the seller, and it looks like they have set the vat code of this product to 0%

However I would also like to point out that as you are the BUYER in this case, you actually get support and a phone line. I would call up and complain, presumably when you purchased this item you specifically looked for a Vat registered seller knowing you could claim the vat back, and this is not the case so you feel conned/defrauded/lied to not to mention what the seller is doing is illegal - if the seller is as clueless as you imply, better getting a slap on the wrist by Amazon and kicked into gear, than the VAT man which would literally land him in prison.
