UK VAT Registered Company only selling to UK
Hi
We are a UK company that is registered on Amazon Seller Central that, currently, only wants to sell to UK customers. We are UK VAT registered but don’t know whether we need to, or what the effect would be, of puttting our VAT details into Seller Central as we will be handling all of our VAT reporting outside of Amazon? Thanks

Do you live in UK?
If you do , and you are uk vat registered, you must upload your UK vat number to amazon so that vat registered businesses can receive vat invoices for their purchases
In this instance, amazon will not report any vat on your behalf. You will still be required to report, submit returns and pay vat to hmrc yourself
Once you add your vat number, you will also no longer pay vat on your seller fees and you’ll report them on your returns as reverse charged transactions
By law, if you are vat registered, you must display the number on your account and charge vat accordingly
If you don’t live in UK, but you store stock here, by law you still need to provide amazon with your vat number

If you supply Amazon your VAT number nothing changes other than your Amazon invoices (bills for everything except advertising) will move to reverse-charge. i.e. the VAT component will be zero’d and you self report.
It is worth at this point ensuring that your default tax code and each of your product inventory tax codes are setup correctly.
Nothing else changes.
You can then optionally enrol into the VAT calculation service where Amazon would produce VAT invoices on your behalf for all orders. You still handle the reporting etc. yourself.
