VAT Services on Amazon ends on October 31, 2024

We continuously evaluate our programmes and services to ensure that they meet the evolving needs of our sellers. After careful consideration, we’ve decided to end the VAT Services on Amazon programme on October 31, 2024. We’re committed to helping you to manage your VAT obligations and are working to launch an improved programme by 2025.

If you use VAT Services on Amazon, you can continue to work with your current tax provider outside of VAT Services on Amazon for your VAT filing activities:

  • In August 2024, your tax provider will contact you to sign their terms and conditions, and re-activate your user account to on-board you to their platform.
  • Your tax provider will continue to manage your monthly or quarterly VAT filing with VAT Services on Amazon until the end of September 2024 filing period, due in October 2024. Afterwards, you’ll be automatically unsubscribed from VAT Services on Amazon.
  • Your current tax provider will manage all future VAT filings and charge you directly, starting with your October VAT filing, due in November 2024 (for monthly filing) or January 2025 (for quarterly filing). To find out more about tax providers and their pricing, go to Manage Your VAT Services.
  • You can download any VAT documents (for example, VAT registration certificates, proofs of filing, and registration documents) from Seller Central until August 31, 2025. New VAT returns filed after October 31, 2024, will be automatically available on your tax provider’s platform.

If you don’t want to continue with your current tax provider after October 31, click the link in your Seller Central case log to opt out and contact a tax provider of your choice by October 1, 2024, to ensure you continue to meet your VAT obligations.

When you say VAT Services, is this the same as VAT Calculation Service?

If so what happens to the displaying of ex VAT prices to business customers, the downloadable VAT invoice badge and the automatic provision of VAT invoices to customers?

From help pages:

With the VAT Calculation Service for Amazon Business customers, you can:

Display prices excluding VAT

Have the Downloadable VAT Invoice badge displayed next to your company name on the product detail and offer listings pages

Provide them with invoices automatically

Between VAT services and Avalara, goodness knows how many sellers form the UK to Europe are being left high and dry with punitive charges, vat liabilities, penalties etc. The whole thing has been a complete and utter shambles.

Hi, can you please ellaborete on that you are working on? The changing environment of VAT services is rather inconvenient to adapt to, next to regular business.

Since Amazon's VAT services are ending in October, J&P Accounting has invoiced me EUR 691.20 for services including 12 months of VAT filing for Germany, Italy, and France, as well as the French fiscal representation fee and the Italian fiscal representation fee. Is this a reasonable amount?

Has anyone else had problems extracting themselves from selling in Europe? It seems the AMZ approach to VAT is a complete shambles. No surprise they are opting out and leaving us with problems of their making.

We need to submit a Zero VAT form in DE but no longer have access to this on our AMZ account. Can anyone advise how we can submit this?

After all the turmoil and disruption of selling to EU after Brexit and all the extra compliance hoops we had to go through, we stopped selling in the EU in 2022 and paid AMZ's tax partner Avalara 300 euro to deregister us from VAT in DE and FR.

Communication and the whole process was badly handled by Avalara with AMZ continuing to charge us monthly fees since early 2023.

Avalara's service is not fit for purpose and neither they or AMZ gave us us meaningful support to understand the steps we had to take.

We have finally chosen not to use a new tax provider and have been assured by AMZ they will look into the 300 euro payment and their fees. I'm not holding my breath.

What exactly are you trying to do? Deregister or just keep filing zero?

I think community guidelines do not allow me to post my email or links here, but if you are filing zero, you need to do it directly on the German government VAT portal called Elster. You will first need to request credentials, so you can access the portal.
