Items becoming out of stock - Coronavirus?

Im starting to see items becoming out of stock which are normally in stock and regularly replenished with supplier, especially where manufactured in China so looking like problems have started. Is this effecting you also? You know its going to create mayhem and effect metrics but will Amazon be sympathetic? Stupid question really…

Apparently yes, Amazon will take it into consideration. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Why would it affect metrics? If you don’t have it, don’t sell it. Then you cannot get a bad metric.

If you’ve not got the item to sell (due to supplier shortages), how could it affect your metrics? Providing you keep your inventory accurate to what you have in hand

This was always going to be a problem for many sellers, once the virus became known about. So many items are manufactured in China that there is a huge reliance on the supply chain from that country. We probably won’t see it until later in the year when some toys become scarce. What is for sure is, some sellers will be able to make good money because a scarcity of particular items means the price will go up. The classic cycle of supply and demand.

I’ve run out of a few stocked items from China (some of them popular) but it hasn’t affected my metrics at all, as you should only be selling something that is physically in stock so you know well in advance if a supply issue is likely and we just set inventory at zero.

May be it is a prime time for a shift away from Chinese manufactured goods - in my experience a lot of it is barely fit for purpose, clothes pegs that function for a few weeks then break, zips that malfunction ending in you throwing clothes away, shoddy electronics, computers that are non-repairable and conveniently just out of guarantee, tennis shoes which last less than 10 games of tennis before falling apart, I could go on(none bought on Amazon, but all Chinese manufactured items that I have bought in the last couple of years that I wish I hadn’t, to which I now check where anything I buy is made, and avoid it if I find it is from China)

Ive been informed Goods have started coming from China now I believe, There were no shipments leaving China for the Most Of February, however stocks have started leaving China Now. Imagine the next 6 weeks or so, there might be a shortage of some stocks however things should be back to normal after that. Slight increase in prices to maintain stock for this period might be the best way to counter the shortages. Only about 5% of our stock actually originates in China, so I am hoping the next 6 weeks would mean we can gain some sales.

I imagine the staff shortages and delivery times maybe the factors that may be of a greater concern.

Just received a big shipment from Shenzhen today. Our other suppliers from Guangzhou dispatched few pallets to Amazon US last week, and it’s already in the US now.
Although we do have some production halted around Hubei area, but most our suppliers have started the production a couple of weeks ago.
Please stop panicking on forums. It’s not an end of the world if you can’t buy a Slazenger t-shirt for yourself.

Why not look for alternate option like sourcing the item from other countries for eg India is the country which can provide the same item
