Selling in Populer DVD Category
Hi all. Does anyone know what it takes to sell in the popular DVD category? I have been trying to apply to do this for the past few weeks with all criteria given to me being:
"
-
Please provide an invoice reflecting the itemised list of goods purchased and the terms of sale.
-
To allow us to continue processing your application , Please ensure that the documentation you submit meets the following requirements, as applicable:
• Invoices must be dated within the last 180 days or reflect the delivery or purchase of products within the last 180 days.
• Invoices must show the combined purchase of at least 10 units of Popular DVD products
• All documents must be valid and unexpired.
• All documents must be clear and legible. No information other than pricing may be redacted.
• All documents must include your name and address, as listed within your selling account.
• All documents must include the issuer’s name and contact information (e.g., phone number, address, e-mail, website, etc.).
"
I believed I had sufficed this by sending them this invoice but they just reply saying the same thing. Which is this:
"We reviewed your application and determined that you are not eligible to sell “Popular DVD” products. We evaluated the information you provided, but it did not pass our review.
We apologize for any inconvenience our decision has caused you. We took this action to ensure the mutual success of our sellers and buyers on our site. This decision doesn’t necessarily reflect poorly on you or your seller account. We take a number of factors into consideration.
We value your participation and hope that you will continue to sell on Amazon. We appreciate your understanding.
Thank you for selling with Amazon"
I keep replying saying I would like to try to sell in this category and have not been given an explanation as to or do not understand what I need to supply to be able to do it or why my invoice of 10 units which has my address and the distributors on it. Nothing works.
Thanks in advance for any help/tips

It’s probably because music magpie are retailers rather than trade only
As you have purchased from a retailer, they are now technically used , not new

You might want to remove the invoice since it has your personal info on it. Two things:
-
MusicMagpie are not part of a valid supply chain and to my knowledge only sell used media. Invoice requirements for ungating are typically an invoice for new items from a valid supply chain
-
That category is almost impossible to get into. Meeting all the requirements is often still not enough

I second what Demel said - there is ‘too much information’ in your attachment. This is a public open forum!
I’d delete it if I were you.

Thanks guys, how the hell do I close this thread?
I will take your advice, I wander who I have to buy from to meet the requirements.
Thanks alot.

Thanks, I’ve flagged it for moderation. I wasn’t sure, who are the main distributors? Ive gone braindead and dont know where people buy them anymore… HMV?

Based on looking at that invoice it fails several tests. There is no website/email for the seller, your email is not on it etc.
Furthermore of course is the rather glaring issue (relating to the above points) that it is an invoice for Music Magpie selling on Amazon - so you bought these from Music Magpie on Amazon with the intention of competing with them on the same platform?
Amazon can be an odd place at times but it isn’t hard to see why this would not be accepted.

I agree with everything which has been said regarding choice of supplier etc but to add to this, have you considered the actual economics of this?
Amazon are currently selling this Blu Ray for £3.46 brand new with free Prime delivery.
IF your Blu Rays are brand new, sealed etc, even if Amazon would unbar you and assuming you’re not VAT registered and you matched Amazon, you’d have:
£3.46 sales proceeds
MINUS 62p Amazon Fee
MINUS at least 90p LL RM postage
MINUS packaging costs (probably at least 10p)
This would leave you with £1.84. Given that your landed cost (i.e the total you paid included postage divided by the number of units) is £2.76 per unit, all your hard work would leave you with a loss of 92p per unit. In fact, if my maths are right, you’d need to sell for £4.59 just to break even.
I haven’t even factored in here that you are either going to be paying £30 per month for a Professional Selling Plan, or paying another 75p (I think that’s still right) for each sale. Assuming the latter, you’d need to sell for £5.50 to break even.
I agree completely with BoxChoixUK. If you want to make money on Amazon, find a category where you can find legitimate wholesalers and ideally where you don’t have thousands of competitors!

Hey, thanks. Thanks for all the responses and your maths looks right biglittlestore. I think your a seasoned seller. I wasn’t going to sell these specific dvds as shown on the invoice I just want approval. I kinda don’t know which wholesaler to buy from and apart from learning to change this and including an email address and website of the seller, and my email address I can’t think what else to include on the invoice.
thanks guys

Spot on. I would imagine even Amazon now make much more money by streaming movies than by selling discs.

I really appreciate that guys if I’m honest. I know how it feels to be some guy scraping together a living and just honestly trying to make a buck buying and selling books for pennies etc. That’s why I wanna crack into the popular dvd market. I know I could make some regardless of what people are saying. Hell some of the 4k dvds that I wanna buy and sell aren’t even restricted. Some get through the net for some reason.
I know it would probably be accepted if I send an invoice and adhere to all the advice that’s been so kindly given to me already. I know to include my email address on it and the sellers’, their website. I think I’ve just got to find a wholeseller now to buy from. I think that’s what I’ve got to do. So I will search and get one.
