Why are Amazon sending me messages like this?

Like many sellers it can often be the case that the shipping is as much as the item. This is nothing new and like any seller the free shipping is just a case of adding this cost on to the item. What I am starting to get annoyed about is Amazon customer services sending me messages like this......

Dear Amazon Seller,

This is Amazon’s Customer Service team. A customer reached out to us with some questions about a purchase they made from you. Here’s a description of the issue:

Reason for contact: The customer is not happy with the item, it's not what he expected and the cost of returning is nearly half the cost of the item. Please provide a prepaid return label to the customer so he can send back the item.

I must point out the item is one which we have sold hundreds of, if not thousands and there is nothing about this listing that we feel we need to change.

We are under no obligation to supply a prepaid returns label and this is not the first time we have had this sort of message.

When we sending something we incur costs. We only provide prepaid returns labels when and item is damaged or faulty. Outside of this it is the customers responsibility to return the item.

When returned at their expense they do of course get a full refund.

At that point we are already out of pocket having posted it out in the first place. We are not in a position where we are going to double or add to our losses by supplying prepaid returns.

PLEASE STOP ASKING US TO DO THIS!

Posting that on here will have absolutely no efffect whatosever - Amazon do not read the forum.

The reason you are getting these is because the customer has contacted customer services. You need to contact the customer and tell them to open a proper return request via the correct method. It depends on the reason for the return as to whether the customer or you is liable for the return postage cost.
