Can anyone recommend a cheap but reliable parcel courier?

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere. I have tried using the search function prior to starting a new topic, but couldn’t find the answer i was looking for.

We’re a small seller who ship mostly light sundry items. We’ve always used Royal Mail for large letters, and Hermes for our parcels.

We’ve done okay with Hermes. I appreciate they have a pretty dire reputation, but we’ve always found them the quickest. The odd parcel gets left up a tree, or on the wrong street, but 99% of them get to the right destination swiftly, so we’ve never had much cause to look elsewhere. When we’ve tried more expensive alternatives we didn’t find them much better. Last few weeks weeks we’ve noticed a spike in issues, so we’re having a look around just in case.

We currently pay £2.43 plus VAT. This is for parcels under <1kg, but in reality they don’t seem to surcharge us for anything up to 2kg. We pay this via a third party who collect from us daily during the week - a local company who guess act as an agent/similar, and who seemed cheaper than going direct.

Could anyone recommend a courier who can offer both reliability and a better price? We don’t need guaranteed next day, just a standard 2-3 day service with basic tracking. We’re based in Manchester (in case anyone knows of a smaller local company, etc).

To be honest, until you have a fairly decent amount of parcels, your not going to get much cheaper than what your already getting.
Have you tried via “buy shipping”? It may be cheaper.

You won’t get cheaper for LL though, RM simply can’t be beaten.

2 cheapest are evri (hermes) and yodel.
Both dire in my experience.
I use royal mail only i get a good rate and very few issues.

We use Yodel via Parcel2Go, literally had 3 issues which were paid out for by parcels2go. £2.15 (+VAT) <1KG, no minimum quantity send, £20 protection, you can add a sig etc etc. No collection but there are Collect+ depots everywhere & if you’re in 0161 then there must be loads in your area being a city.

We do find that Evri are the quickest at delivering for their low price.

Parcels2Go are really useful, claims team, live chat team, if you send more than 50 a week then you get an account manager.

I really enjoy using P2G as a site.
