Buy shipping labels

Sorry i have looked through the forums but cannot find the answer to this even though i’m sure it has been asked before

i’m using a Zebra GK420d for C&D and labels print perfectly

I bought a couple of signed for labels from amazon buy shipping the other day for reasonably high value orders

i printed on my zebra and it was quite a bit blurry so i reprinted on my inkjet just in case

if i wanted to do this again in the future, is there anyway to ensure the zebra labels are not blurry
I know its not my printer settings as they are fine for everything else

thank you !

When I use buy shipping, it makes absolutely no difference to the print quality to be honest.
The only thing I can think of, is that I have print connect installed?

Hi The_Little_Shop,

For the Zebra printer, should it not be the ZPL format for a zebra printer? We use Linnworks for our buy shipping so everything is done through their system so we aren’t able to check.

Do you usually purchase Buy Shipping (CRL) through Amazon linked to your RM account? The correct setting for this is ZPL.

What I have found is if I purchase shipping in bulk, or one of the non-RM account-linked options (like for example: Royal Mail Signed for 1st class, it doesn’t and won’t print in ZPL format. It opens a different print box, whereas usually it sends the info direct to the Zebra - which in turn prints automatically.

I use a mac with the Zebra GK420d. Firefox browser

edited to add - Buy Shipping always remembers your last used print setting, so if you swap from ZPL to PNG for example, and want to switch back to ZPL, you have to manually select ZPL next time you print

We use a GK420d as well and we have it set at 4 x 6 ZPL however we use DPD not Royal Mail so dont know if that is a factor.

If you have a GK420d download and install printer set up utilities from

After installation you can “configure print quality”

And more under printer preference or properties as below

DO NOT USE BROWSER PRINT FUNCTIONALITY BECAUSE FOR SOME REASON IT IS NOT CONSISTANT FOR ME, SO PROBABLY SAME FOR YOU TO

We had this with Hermes labels via buy shipping, never with RM on bs or c&d, I spoke with Zebra support who deleted it, reinstalled it with different settings than our IT guy used & now it works fine and good quality… :woman_shrugging:

I use LP2844 and GK420d with RM.

Label size set to 3.5in x 5in PNG; when printing I select 4x6 inch label on Mac and it prints fine and true to size of the label…

I had this problem with print quality.
They were ok if printed from PDF but were awful if printed from other file types.
In the end it was a driver issue.
My advice is NOT to use the driver from Zebra but to use one from Seagull Scientific and find the Dithering option and set to Ordered. The improvement in quality was enormous.

We had and still have the same problem with a Zebra GK420d working great on C&D all day long but being blurry and non-scannable on Amazon buy shipping.

Solution in the end was to stop using the Zebra and move to the far cheaper and thankfully better K Comer Shipping Label Printer 150mm/s - 4x6 Direct Thermal Label Printer. They are about £120.00 from Amazon and we use 3 of them now, great little printers.

Best wishes.
