Scam buyer returned dress instead of tech item - what to do?
Hi everyone.
Had a buyer request return of a £105 tech item. It was auto accepted and Hermes label provided.
I have just received the parcel this morning but rather than the correct item being present, he put a ladies dress in the box. (presumably just to give the package some weight).
I haven’t done anything yet. What’s the best course of action?
Thanks!

If it were me I’d reply that you had received the return however, they have unfortunately returned the wrong item therefore they need to arrange to get the dress sent back to them and send back the actual item so that you can refund.
Make it sound like you understand it was probably a mistake - a mix up of returns etc

It is just possible that it is a mix up, ie that the buyer has had multiple returns and mixed them up. I’ve done it before. It isn’t necessarily a scam so I’d agree with @The_Little_Shop; make it sound like you think it’s a mistake. Hopefully, the customer will then converse with you to sort the matter out.

Thank you both.
I have contacted buyer on assumption that it was a mistake. Also spoken to AMZ via chat to register my concern and have a case ID from them which I suppose might help in event of AtoZ/ neg feedback.

So looks like he is indeed a scammer.
After I reached out to help with his mistake he very swiftly opened an A to Z claim and has accused me of opening the parcel, placing the dress there and taking photos.
After googling his (unique) name, it seems that he was a software engineer for Amazon up until recently. I guess he therefore has a good knowledge of how their systems work.

Process the return, there is an option to select saying item was missing etc. Take the pic and add to the return case. Then deduct 90% and process it.

this is horrible to hear this happening. its almost a mirror situation to what happened to us a few months ago where we had a ASOS clothing garment returned instead of a £200 tablet. I managed to defend the Amazon A to Z by uploading lots and lots of pictures of the product before sending. and also video/photos of the package when it arrived. I also sent all the same evidence to the customer via buyer /seller messages ( I think this is important for Amazon A to Z is to see you send the same evidence to the buyer)
and i think I managed to get a weight scan from the original delivery I sent compared to the returned delivery which helped defend my case that the parcel always contained the clothing and not the tablet which was a lot heavier.
please let us know how you get on, good luck.
