Can I have 1 VAT number on 2 accounts
I currently have 1 seller account which is a limited company. I am wanting to open a second seller account. This will tick all the amazon boxes, different bank account, different email, different products, etc. I know you are allowed the same registered name and address. I have had this confirmed by customer support.
From my accountant’s point of view, the second account would just be an additional trading name under my original limited company. This is better for me as I would only be paying one accounting fee rather than setting up a second limited company and paying my accountant twice.
This also makes HMRC happy as it does not look like I am trying to split my VAT responsibility up over various companies.
My question is, can I use the same VAT number and Company number on my second account? I have contacted Amazon support on many occasions without getting a definitive answer. Has anybody else done this? Thanks.

So your accountant is right about splitting vat responsibility
There are 3 criteria that hmrc look at when 2 separate businesses (owned by the same person) are trading without both being vat registered.
You obviously don’t qualify to split vat as you meet the 3 criteria therefore both your companies pay VAT under the same number.
Now on amazon, you can have two accounts that are trading under -
Different legal entities
Different bank accounts
Different products and categories
I believe if you are hitting amazon criteria you CAN have 2 separate amazon accounts.
I’m not 100% sure about the use of the same vat number but you CAN’T have the same company number as you are supposed to have 2 separate companies
You also cannot register the new amazon account as an additional trading name under the same ltd company as your 1st account

Thanks for the reply.
Well, this has helped more than Amazon customer service.
I suppose if you defiantly can’t have the same company number on 2 seller accounts it makes the VAT question a non-starter. It looks like I would have to register 2 limited companies with company house which would also enable me to have 2 VAT numbers as they are separate entities. Then set up the second seller’s account from there.
OK, I would have to pay 2 lots of accountancy fees but I suppose that’s the price you have to pay.
I just figured if you could keep 2 seller accounts under 1 umbrella company if that is easier.
Should the second account fall under the 85,000 VAT threshold I would still voluntarily pay to show I am not deliberately trying to defer money from my company.

If the second one is not a limited company account then it wouldnt need a company number and would then be separate?
