Does anyone have any success with the post office scanning their sales order (Click & Drop)

I believe it was last year when Royal Mail changed the procedure for taking your mail to the Post Office. They stopped you putting the sales order in the sack and asked you to present it separately for the Post Office to scan (which would generate a receipt). Despite using 3 different printers and three different post offices I have yet to get any of my paperwork scanned successfully.

The post office in my village is now saying that unless they can scan the paperwork they will no longer accept my post which leaves me with a round trip of 20 miles to the next nearest post office.

Anybody else having problems?

Yes, if you are referring to the barcode on the manifest my Post Office long since gave up trying to scan our sacks as the barcodes are unreadable. They say it is the same for other C&D business customers. and not just my business.

If your Post Office refuses to accept your post, you should advise them to contact Royal Mail who will confirm the barcodes do not work. If they refuse to do this you can report them to Post Office Counters Ltd.

If they can’t scan it, they should be entering the number in manually

On their royalmail computer screen they need to do the following

1.Selcet “Business Mail”
2."PPI
3. Enter number at top of the mainfest
4.How many bags you have

My two closest post offices never once scanned them. I used to hand them over, and after a few weeks they asked what it was and said they never used them. Since then I don’t even bother to print them and have never had any issues.

From tomorrow I’ve got collections set up, so no more post office hassles!

My Post Office uses the Order Number instead. You could suggest yours try that too.

same everywhere
The collection drivers scanner will work on the barcode
The post office scanner will not scan the barcode
it has to be done manually via manifest number as other members have suggested
Select “Business Mail”
2.Select “Mail Acceptance”
Then Enter number at top of the manifest
Lastly Enter How many bags you have

Hi
I had this initialally, however it was eventually sorted and they can scan our manifest.
But whilst we had the problem of " non scanning" the post office counters has an option on their machines to enter the manifest number manually
Take a quiet moment and approach your village post office again and ask them to search their screen for this.
Our telephone customer service and ask for directions to give them

WOW - thanks for all your responses. At least I am not alone!

The problem is my post office have been looking for an excuse not to take my sacks for ages now. Initially they told me that Click and drop was not a Royal Mail Service and that it was Hermes! Then when I proved it was a Royal Mail service they said they wouldn’t take my sacks as they don’t get paid anything for doing it. I contacted Royal Mail and someone helpfully told them they had to take my sacks and to just scan the paperwork. However now the paperwork doesn’t scan properly they have another excuse not to take the sacks!

So if I can persuade them to enter the details manually is it the manifest number they enter or the order reference?

Hi,

I work at a post office and yes, the procedure if scanning doesn’t work, is to input the barcode manually. The staff should all know this as it is part of their training. It takes a few seconds. They need to keep the manifest for the postal guys to either scan or take the manifest. Post offices have to adhere to this . Hope this helps

report them to royal mail, most independent post offices are less than helpful as they get nothing out of it

It is not the post office staff who scan the barcode but the collection driver. The driver does not have the option to input the number manually so it has to be scanned. Try printing the manifest full size as if you reduce it that stops it scanning. That should solve your problem. good luck.
