I have been sending shipments via UPS, using Amazon FBA's SEND feature with UPS as a preferred partner from the UK to the US, for a long time now. Previously every shipment went through fine, with all UPS fees shown in Amazon and then charged from my Amazon account.
Recently I got flooded by direct invoices from UPS for 'Commercial Invoice Paper Surcharge' - it seems a new fee that UPS is charging for attaching commercial invoices to the packages (as instructed by Amazon when you create the shipment).
I would be very happy to supply digital commercial invoices instead - however no one seems to be able to tell me how.
Anyone I speak to at UPS is clueless about the Amazon FBA preferred partner feature and can only tell me how to do it while purchasing postage direct through UPS's website.
I have tried sending invoices via email to an address supplied by someone at UPS who indicated this would be fine - however these still were charged as paper commercial invoices. I noticed as well that the invoices for the surcharges are generated BEFORE UPS have even collected the shipment and are in possession of the paper commercial invoice - so it feels that it happens on shipment creation in Amazon, regardless of what I can do to send it digitally afterwards.
Anyone I speak to at Amazon are equally clueless. The best I've got a ticket which is being raised with an 'internal team' but has been weeks now.
Is anyone else facing this? And have you managed to get any shipments not to have the surcharge?
At this point, it feels like the only option is to give up on Amazon FBA's SEND feature - but I'm hesitant to do that, as previously by booking shipments with couriers directly, I've usually had issues with Amazon's warehouses receiving them!
Would be great to hear from anyone else experiencing this!
