Changes to Amazon Prepaid Returns Label feature for seller-fulfilled orders

Effective August 31, 2021, we are updating our Prepaid Returns Label exemption process to offer a better user experience to our sellers who fulfil customer orders sold on amazon.co.uk with Amazon Prepaid Return Label feature. We are automating exemptions in several categories aligned with our return policy to reduce your effort in manually requesting these exemptions. As part of this change, all existing exemptions filed by sellers will be validated and backfilled, as long as they meet the validation criteria, such as >GBP100 for high price items.

Starting August 31, 2021, returns for the following product categories are automatically exempt from prepaid return labels and will be sent to you for manual review and authorisation:

  • Handmade
  • Amazon Custom
  • Sexual wellness
  • Certified Preowned Watches
  • Professional medical supplies and Professional dental supplies
  • Non-physical items (for example, warranties, digital software or digital vouchers)
  • Items that are non-returnable by law and dangerous goods (hazardous goods) in any given product category
  • Heavy and bulky items in any given product category

Product exemption is based on the information you provide to Amazon when listing your product. Please ensure that your product information is accurate and complete at all times, especially information for dangerous goods. For more information, refer to Hazardous and Dangerous Items.

Note: In addition to the changes we are making to the Prepaid Return Label exemptions process, we are also automatically exempting the following categories and subcategories from automated return authorisations, which will also be sent to you for manual review:
  • Grocery and Wine
  • Video, Video Games, Software and DVD
  • ‘Flowers & Bouquets’ and ‘Fresh Cut Flowers’
  • Hygienic items from product categories Baby, Beauty, Health & Personal Care, Personal Care Appliances
For all pending return requests, a response is required within 24 hours. For information about how to manually review and process such requests, refer to Process return requests. To monitor returns, refer to Manage returns or download a Return report.

With the above changes, the exemption request process from the Prepaid Returns Label has been simplified, and you will no longer be able to manually request exemptions for the following reason codes:

  • REQUIRES_SPECIAL_SHIPPING: If the item cannot be shipped with a standard shipping label (such as dangerous goods) offered by 3P carriers integrated in the Amazon Prepaid Returns Label feature.
  • TOO_LARGE_HEAVY: Heavy and bulky items where the shipping weight of the item exceeds carrier agreed weight and dimension guidelines, as these items will be automatically exempt.
  • RETURNLESS REFUND: You can still continue to use this feature through the Returnless Refunds option available under Settings > Return Settings > Returnless Refund.

However, you may continue to request exemptions for SKUs in the following category:

  • HIGH_PRICE_GREATER_GBP_100: High-valued items that need special shipping (for example, items that require special shipping insurance)
Note: All return requests for items where sellers filed requests to exempt SKUs from the Prepaid Return Label feature will be automatically authorised. For returns of seller-filed SKUs that are exempt from the Amazon Prepaid Return Label feature, sellers will continue to have the option to upload a merchant-prepaid label. Return requests that are out-of-policy or category-exempt will continue to be sent for manual return authorisation.

For more information, refer to Prepaid returns for seller-fulfilled orders.

To offer a returnless resolution for specific SKUs, refer to Returnless Refunds.

To configure multiple return addresses for specific SKUs, refer to Multiple return addresses.

Does that mean items below £100 are excluded?

So we are not exempt from your new pre-paid return system and have questions that could not be answered on chat. Firstly, we have been charged for labels that have not even been used. When looking to refund a customer who returned herself via Hermes I noted we have automatically been charged for the Amazon royal mail label that has not even been used!! I am guessing then that this is the same when a return request has been made but the customer does not then return the item? I also note that when a customer falsely claims there is something wrong with the item (for seller pre-paid return when there is absolutely nothing wrong with it) we cannot debit the cost of the label when issuing the refund.
Answers please Amazon as charging sellers for every label whether used or not is fraud!

@Amazon_News OK so it’s seems that you are listening.

How about for those sellers that have linked their C&D account, you use that to issue the return label. At least then we have control over claims for when a return might go missing and our prices are better than teh price Amazon charge.

I seen Amazon custom made but not sellers custom made.

where can you see the charge for unused return labels? I have had 3 cancelled returns as I resolved the customers issues through messages… just proofs that auto return isn’t good at all.

The labels issued by Amazon are Tracked returns. These are only billed once they get their first scan.

If you are seeing a charge in your transaction view under:

https://sellercentral.amazon.co.uk/payments/event/view?accountType=PAYABLE&eventType=ShippingService&eventType=AmazonShippingCharges&resultsPerPage=10&pageNumber=1

Then the buyers parcel has entered the postal system. We use tracked return labels all the time, I can print off 50 via C&D and none are charged, the same applies to Amazon.

If you’re seeing the charge and the parcel hasn’t arrived back, then that’s a different issue.
