Understanding Account Level Reserves

We typically reserve your funds until a specific number of days after your shipments are delivered. This is recognized as payments based on delivery date.

Why are delivery date reserves applied to my account?

Delivery date reserves ensure you have enough funds to fulfil financial obligations, such as refunds, claims or chargebacks.

How long are funds reserved?

Funds are reserved until a shipment is delivered, plus a reserve period. The default standard setting reserve period is 7 days after delivery date (“DD+7” reserve policy). For example, if you sell something on January 1, and it is delivered on January 6, then under the DD+7 policy, your funds will become available for disbursement starting on January 14.

Please note: Your reserve period may be extended following an assessment of your overall risk and historical performance.

What share of funds are held back by delivery date reserves?

Delivery date reserves are calculated based on shipment delivery dates. This means that the reserve amount will increase or decrease over time, depending on your sales volume.

What happens when delivery date reserves are applied to my account?

If you have recently had a delivery date reserve policy applied to your account, or if you just started selling, it is normal to observe that all of your funds are held in reserve. This is because your reserve amount is based on the funds from shipments that were delivered within your reserve period (with the standard being 7 days, or “DD+7”). Funds will be released from reserve in accordance with the shipment’s delivery date, at which point funds will be available for transfer to your bank account.

How are shipment delivery dates determined?

When you use an integrated shipping provider, we will use the actual delivery date of the order. In the absence of valid tracking data, we will use the latest estimated delivery date (EDD).

What can I do to get paid faster?

  • Dispatch your items as soon as possible, and confirm dispatch in Manage orders.
  • Provide valid tracking numbers when confirming shipments. This gives buyers peace of mind, knowing that their parcel is on the way. Use an integrated carrier, as the actual delivery date is typically earlier than the latest estimated delivery date (EDD).
  • Choose faster delivery.

Hi, Micah, Thank you for posting this. Just a couple of quick questions:

Under "How Long Are Funds Reserved", I don't see any reference to Amazon reserving seller funds for two months or longer, which is what many of us are experiencing.

Under "What Share Of Funds Are Held Back", many are having 100% of seller funds withheld in reserve, and I don't see any reference here for that.

Under "How to get paid faster", we purchase all shipping through Amazon Buy Shipping, so tracking numbers are automatically uploaded for Amazon's reference.

I understand there may be extenuating circumstances with some seller accounts, but is it too much to request that Amazon notify us of the infringement that we committed, and then provide us with a timeframe for how long 100% of our seller funds will be held in reserve?

Again, our Case ID is 15770151521, and I appreciate your help!

I have a couple of questions about how shipping costs and reserves work:

1. When we buy shipping through Amazon, does the cost always come directly from the reserve? If so, does that mean an influx of orders with Amazon-purchased shipping would reduce the payout amount due to the increased shipping costs?

2. If a seller generates a certain amount of sales during a disbursement period and then doubles their sales in the next period, does the reserve increase and potentially absorb the payments from the original disbursement?

Hi, you mention that the default is 7 days but could be longer based on a risk assessment. My question is, could it be less based on the same logic? Is there anything a seller can do to get the time, amount of funds held reduced? Does maintaining an exceptional performance help in any way to reduce the amount of money being held?

If you didn’t notice yet, I’m asking due to real pain! We’ve maintained the highest level of compliance since selling on Amazon. Our ODR, return rate, charge backs, A-Z complaints are as close to ZERO as possible. Our on time shipping rate is at 100% we have maintained all this for the entire time we’ve been selling on Amazon! We’ve grown our business to 7 figures. While NEVER getting a break from Amazon. I’m not even seeking recognition from Amazon for spending well over a million dollars per year for advertising! Besides all the fees related to selling! But the basic courtesy of a reply that’s not robotic from seller support, and again from SAS core that “reserve policy cannot accommodate exceptions for removal/modification or appealable.” is expected! Frankly speaking, I feel punched in the face! I can think of absolutely no other scenario where such behavior and business practices would be acceptable or tolerated. Especially with accounts as large as mine. I’d like to understand how we get to a point where less of our money is hijacked! I know that there are accounts that have a zero reserve! Please explain how to get there! Thank you and I’m sorry for the rant.

Hi - I have had only 1 return and people are very happy. I have so much money in the reserves though and no payments have been made. When can I expect to have some paid out? I am not seeing anything close to a +7 timing- please help me.
