Disbursements now sent as CHAPS instead of BACS

Our last three disbursements have been received within 24 hours instead of the normal 3-5 days.

All three have incurred a £6.00 banking fee. Checking with our bank Amazon have sent the transfers as CHAPS instead of the normal BACS method.

Disbursing everyday will mean a couple of thousand pounds a year in additional banking fees which is obviously not practical.

Before I contact Amazon, anyone else experiencing this?

Also, can anyone advise a direct email to the Amazon payments team?

I’ve had recent disbursements arrive within 24hrs…but none have incurred a banking fee (Yet)

I have a business account with Lloyds and the new disbursments are showing as: Faster Payments Incoming (FPI).
I’ve not incurred any additional charges.

Where do you see the charge? Is it on the bank statement or on the Amazon account?

https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/news/2014/11/customers-being-ripped-off-by-banks-on-faster-payments-limits/

“Once you hit your bank’s Faster Payments limit, you’ll be asked if you want to transfer your cash via what is known as a CHAPS (Clearing House Automated Payment System) payment. You will be charged for this transfer, with the fee varying between banks, but typically being between £20 and £30.”

Seems like differnt banks have differing amounts on how much can be transferred PER YEAR via BACS, once that limit is reach it changes to CHAPS and you get charged by your bank for the transfer.
Something I found googling, but worth checking up on. GL!

Surely Amazon have no right to do this without our consent ? - what right have they to cause us to incur charges ?
If this is the method they are going to user to send disbursements, then it is so wrong.

I would imagine you have a business bank account and the bank you hold it with charges for transactions (both in and out). I guess their fee is £6 for inward chaps payments. So this won’t be the same across the board. My business account doesn’t charge for credits in to the account so any chaps payments I receive will not have a fee deducted. It will vary from bank to bank and account to account.

Checked my last 2 payments from Amazon. No deduction by my bank.
