VAT + Sole Trader
Hi,
Amazon ask for VAT exemption proof -
- U.K based Seller
- Registered as a Sole Trader
- You are under the threshold of £85,000
And require -
(ii) A copy of your latest yearly tax return filed in your name, including the pages where the sole trader income as been reported.
I have sent this and they still seem to reject it (although I am trying again) - it highlights all their 3 criteria mentioned above. Their emails also whilst written in English do not actually make much sense eg - We would like to clarify that the exemption you have declared your VAT registration exemption status. There are more. So I am not sure they actually understand what I am sending to them.
Has anyone else had this issue and how did they get around it? So frustrating!!
Many thanks

Do you mean you are trying to register your exemption so that you don’t pay vat on seller fees
And not the invoice sending ‘exemption’ ?

So just to clarify… you’re a UK Sole Trader trading below the 85k and you are not registered for VAT with HMRC (so no VAT is included in your product prices)… is that correct?

Hhmmm… would you happen to have a link to this info as I didn’t know this, I could be doing myself out of some profit here.

Hey @Bureau-Elegance,
Do you have an update?

I wasn’t aware of this issue of wrongly being charged vat of seller fees until this @The_Little_Shop and @PeterB provided more info, so thank you for that.
@Bureau-Elegance - That’s very strange why they are not accepting your document.
I sent Amazon a message on Saturday asking to be changed to vat exempt status, they came back to me on Sunday asking for a tax return, so I sent through my 20-21 return and they came back this morning saying as from today i’m vat exempt and can claim back vat on seller fees from mid-January.

They refused to pay me back mine without a certificate of incorporation, I forwarded my tax return, however I have been trading since April '22 so the '21-'22 tax year showed only employment income maybe thats why they refused?
