Branded products declined by Amazon

How do you apply for approval for certain branded items from the manufacturer to sell on Amazon?
Is their a list of branded items that require this?
I bought items to sell and they were all declined. Colgate, Lynx, Gillette and OralB.

Some categories are gated including toys, beauty and grocery and can be difficult to get approval - especially for new sellers

It also depends on where you bought your goods

The big issue too would be that only verified business sellers can sell in those categories - are you ?

that’s yet another thing that Amazon made almost unworkable in its war against sellers.

when you attempt to add product of the brand that they had rejected before, it will let you “submit selling application”.

you will need EAN, MPN and photos of the product. also, you will need an invoice issued TODAY or valid for 6 months from today.

yes, you have read that right - the invoice has to have today’s date or any day within 6 months from today IN THE FUTURE. invoice has to have your name and address and the bran in question (gilette etc) on it.

yes, that is right.

when you do that, they will message you with the following:

"Hello from Amazon Selling Partner Support,

I understand you have encountered error 5461 while trying to add a product.

As our valued seller, your satisfaction is our top most priority. Be assured, I’ll do everything I possibly can to help you with this.

I would like to inform you that we have written to our internal team to take this issue for evaluation.

The concerned team is working on the case. Please be informed that once we get an update on this we will update you accordingly.

I appreciate your patience and understanding in this regards.

Thank you for selling with Amazon."

you will be getting this message every 8 or so hours.

somehow when you send the selling application, amazon understands it that you are getting “error 5461”.

after a day you will get message that they are still working hard, after some more time they will ask you for a screenshot of this error, because they can not find anything wrong (windows with this error pops up when you are trying to add brand registered product).

do not be surprised if they ask you to send them photos and details of the product again.

finally, after 3 days they will let you sell branded products - if your paperwork was ok.

the very important thing is that you will be allowed to list products for 96 hours only.

"As per update from our team you can now list all his/her products globally (across all marketplaces) for the approved brand: XXXXX

Please note you are only permitted to list items in the appeal for 96 hours as this brand is protected on Amazon.

Kindly list the products under the mentioned brand , within 96 hours without any fail or else, you will face 5461 error again

Please be informed we cannot re-approve it without genuine reasons.

We are glad to provide assistance and we wish you the best of luck for your future sales!"

So it is very important to apply for the approval when you have all the products you want to list ready, as you will have only 96 hours to list them. As you can see they will also quasi threaten you by saying that they will not approve it without “genuine reasons”.

Because willing to sell product on selling platform is not a genuine reason for amazon.

Remember, that once this 96 hours passes, you will have to go through the entire process again. You will be getting the same emails, and “amazon teams” will again have no clue what to do, and they will again take 72 hours to sort it out.

remember to check you email regularly as they will keep on asking you to resubmit the same information several times.

this is amazon. welcome.

You need to check if you can sell an item before you buy it. If you are a business, then you should be able to apply for approval for those items. You will just need to upload your invoice from a decent wholesaler. You say you bought Lynx etc direct from Unilever? If the option to apply for approval isn’t there, then you can’t sell the items.

a somewhat linked question: Can a manufacturer / holder of a trademarked (brand name) product, tell amazon they don’t want their products being sold on the platform?
