The VAT Trap: Why I Can't Sell on Amazon UK Market! 😡

It's incredibly frustrating to encounter these obstacles when trying to sell on Amazon!

Despite being a UK-born resident, I'm hitting a brick wall trying to sell on Amazon UK. Amazon support insists I must be VAT registered, even though I'm nowhere near the advised threshold in the UK. Voluntary VAT registration seems out of reach for a sole e-commerce trader, especially given that I lack a separate business address and don't receive goods at the indicated home address.

Shockingly, I can sell internationally, yet selling in my country is hindered by this VAT requirement. The whole process feels incredibly convoluted and daunting. Frankly, if I'd been aware of these hurdles from the outset, I might have abandoned the idea of doing business on Amazon entirely.

Voluntary registration is certainly not out of reach, but what exactly have Amazon said? Not whatever Support are saying, what notification or banner is making VAT mandatory?

If you DO actually live in UK, and have no other non-UK info on your account, then you do not need to be VAT registered until your turnover is over the threshold, though you can register voluntarily. Another thought is - are you using a virtual address as your business address ? - Amazon do not seem to like those as they seem to assume that if you are using a virtual address to register in UK then you possibly are not a UK resident.

If you dont have a business address and dont get goods at home, where do you get goods to?

Selling internationally can also cause VAT implications, have you checked them?
