Brand name for second hand books.
Can any booksellers help me here ? I have tried the usual Amazon case route but so far it has been quite hopeless.
I was trying to list a book as 'add a new product' The search of both title and ISBN brought up no results so I went through the tedious, infinitely long and convoluted process of starting from scratch. But when i got to the end it did not go live. The listing is marked as 'incomplete'. This is the error message. Does anyone know what to do ?
You may not change the brand name on this ASIN. Use the brand name currently shown on the ASIN detail page. If you believe you are using the correct brand name, contact Selling Partner Support https://sellercentral.amazon.co.uk/hz/contact-us and mention the error code 5995.
You are receiving this error as you may be adding Offer-Listing(s) or editing a SKU not present in your catalogue or one that’s been deleted. If this was a deleted SKU, wait 24 hours before resubmitting it. If you have tried to add this SKU to the Amazon catalogue before, check your data and correct any errors before resubmitting. If product is being added to a store from another one, it may require few hours for localisation before it is valid, please check your seller account for progress or any issues.
The book is Hess, the missing years by David Irving. He has had, shall we say, an 'interesting' career. A lot of publishers did not want to bbe associated with him so he set up his own publishing house. He now sells this book from there with the same ISBN, as far as I can find out. I wonder if this could be the problem ?
Amazon keeps asking me for screenshots of the problem. I cant get that to work, and even copy and paste of the exactly the same thing does not satisfy them. And they closed my case because i did not answer them back with 'more details' ( which I dont have ) at 5 am

Oh, and I have been throughthe complete process twice, going over the 'just one more box to fill' thing many, many times and i thought I had it right. I just dont know of anything i can do differently

The brand name (in Amazon's world !) is actually the publisher. I've just tried to list it too using the ISBN I found on google, but no joy either ! I would simply sell elsewhere, as you are unlikely to get anywhere with Amazon !

Just checked on Bookfinder; plenty of copies available, both Macmillan & Focal Point editions, but only 1 on Az.be. I suspect that the title may have been withdrawn by Amazon as they deem it offensive & against their guidelines

Yes, that was my thought too - was there not a scenario a while ago where anything with the word Nazi in it was removed ?
Seller_N0kQDKMgwda6y
I dont know what it is. After people stopped publishing his books he set up his own publishing house and you can buy it from there. So I suspect that may now be regarded as the 'brand name'.
When I first looked up this book it was rare and quite valuable. Much less so now that you can buy a reprint, but mine is the first edition.
It has now become much less a quest to list the book, than an exploration of the depth of Amazons obfuscation.
I have explained it carefully and reasonably patiently, in depth, to about six people now. All I get is repeated requests for the ASIN (as an uncompleted listing, it has not been assigned an ASIN. ) requests for screenshots ( I cant get that to work, although I have copy and pasted the error messages in their entirety. I have explained it step by step. Its like wading through treacle. Nobody who has replied to me has given even the slightest indication that they have read beyond the first line of my replies, or understood the issue at all. Its actually quite astonishing. And depressing.

Hess was of course a Nazi but its not in the title, and its not flagged as being the problem. Although nobody has yet explained to me actually what the problem is.
Seller_N0kQDKMgwda6y
you found one on Amazon ? i did not, either title or ISBN. That might be the problem.

I got an anwer
I understand you have contacted us regarding the 5995 error.
After a review it was found that fir ASIN 0333451791 the brand name is MACMILLAN and you are not a registered brand representative or reseller for brand [MACMILLAN]. Hence you are facing this issue.
Which totally disagrees with their original stated reason for my book not being listed, and indeed, with their own answers to other people enquiring about error code 5995

"you found one on Amazon ?"
I think @Seller_mxez2L8QjE6WWsaid she found one on Amazon.be (Belgium ?)
Seller_mxez2L8QjE6WW
It was on Amazon.be (which I think is Belgium). Must have somehow slipped through the bot-net. But it is hopeless trying to get any help from SS (perhaps they should re-name that as it is Nazi-related!!); it seems to be totally algorithm-driven and even if you persist (and risk your sanity) they don't seem to know what a book is or have the slightest comprehension of the nuances of bookselling. Happy Monday.

I don't bother trying to add books not already on their catalogue because it takes ages to input all the information requested only to find its not accepted at the end
Ones that have been accepted you seem not to be available to find if you search for them within Amazon or Google anyway
I put them for sale elsewhere

As others have hinted, attempting to create a new catalogue entry for an existing title from an established publisher is now practically impossible. You always run into that 'you are not the brand owner' brick wall.
[Having said that, a lot of dodgy dropshippers appear to have no problem with creating bogus duplicate titles...]
I would also be wary of attempting to list a book by an author with such a dubious reputation.
It appears his books have not been banned outright on Amazon but maybe the bots just haven't caught up with all of them ...?

If you google "error code 5995" you'll see many queries on the subject - unfortunately I cant see any sign of anybody having any clue what its all about.
Over the last few months Ive tried to list 9 or 10 books with no ISBN and not already in the catalogue. It has been completely hopeless. I firmly believe that the whole process is entirely in the hands of the Amazon bots and that no human ever gets involved.
